Best customizable news website?

I used to enjoy Google News, with the ability to add custom sections and arrange them on the page the way I like, etc. Now Google has wrecked this, deleted everyone’s custom settings and pissed everyone off. WTF is with the annoying World Cup scores box that you can’t get rid of? Newsflash, Google: not everyone is gaga over sports.

I need a new news site.

Tried Bing…meh. Could not find how to create and arrange custom news sections (can it?). Gave up after about 20 mins of messing with it.

Yahoo News/My Yahoo seems pushy somehow and I don’t like how they’re trying to be all facebooky with the social networking thing. Sorry, my news is my business, I do not want to be nagged all the time to “share” shiat with others.

All I want is a good solid news site that allows me to select what content I want to see and how its arranged. I especially desire the ability to NOT see certain news catagories, like anything to do with sports or celebrities. I would LOVE to be able to program it to never show stories with certain keywords.

Does such an animal exist?

Since the OP is looking for informed opinions, let’s move this from GQ to IMHO.

Is BING news even customizable at all? What’s the appeal?

I created a virtual newspaper at Newscred ( squip.newscred.com ) and I found the process easy and the results decent. YMMV.

Yeah, Newscred seems to be the choice of a lot of ex-Google Newsers. I wasn’t in love with it but at least it’s trying which is more than I can say for Google News now.

Ask.com has an “okay” News site but I miss seeing the the little blurb along with the headline.
