Guilty pleasure: Golden Grahams or Honey-Nut Cheerios
Not Guilty: Kashi Go-Lean (but I did have to get over the “twigs” thing) and Heart-to-Heart (with little heart shaped pieces )
and this late entry: “Give your bowl the taste of ancient grains. Heritage is the breakthrough breakfast cereal that gave North American breakfast lovers their first taste of Kamut, Spelt, Quinoa and Millet.”
Didn’t know what most of that was before, but it tastes pretty good.
Well, for cold cereal, I do agree with Cranberry Almond Crunch. A very close second is something Quaker makes for Costco: it’s similar to Cranberry Almond Crunch, but has mac nuts in it.
But overall: COCO WHEATS!!! Yummy, yummy, yummy. I get strange looks when I spot it on the shelves here in the South and start snapping up all of the boxes.

The all-time best cereal ever created by the labor of man is Frankenberries! Those sweet, squeaky, artificial strawberry-flavored marshmallows and the uh… bits of pink kibble that weren’t marshmallows but had awesome artificial strawberry flavoring too that turned your milk pink…mmmm-mmmmmmm! My mom, being a mom, wouldn’t buy my brother and I “junk cereals” as she called them. We had to wait until we visited a particular aunt who always made sure she had a box of 'em in the pantry.
My cat would like to put in a vote for Frosted Flakes - he has a fondness for the leftover milky. He gets quite aggressive about claiming his share when I eat them.
My dad was so excited about trying that cereal because he loves blueberries. He ended up very disappointed. He said that the blueberries were like “eating BBs.”
Since I can’t drink milk, the only cereals I eat are either dry out of the box (Coco Puffs or Golden Grahams) or cooked (pastina cooked in chicken broth with lots of butter and parmesan cheese or good ol’ Cream of Wheat.)
But Grape-Nuts are wonderful on chocolate ice cream.
(Yes, I can eat processed milk products. Just not the drinkin’ kind of milk.)
Another vote for Cracklin’ Oat Bran. Can’t get enough of the stuff. Does look like pet food, though. Thought my sister was the only one who thought so.
Fruity Pebbles, Golden Grahams and Basic 4 are also favorites.
Yes! Someone else voted for Basic 4! That cereal rocks, as well as Raspberry Ginger Crisp. Can’t remember the brand, but it has fun yoga poses on the inside of the cereal flap. The only trouble is that it’s very difficult to hold some of those poses without sloshing the milk out of the bowl…
I love Banana Nut Crunch. I will also throw votes in for Apple Jacks, Lucky Charms, and Cocoa Puffs.
I was at the grocery store the other day, and it looks like the Cap’n has done it again: Cocoa Crunch! Bought a box, but haven’t tried it yet; I’ll let you choco-cereal lovers know how it is.
Grape Nuts - Only with sugar, though, and you have to let them soak in the milk for a while.
Cracklin’ Oat Bran - I don’t think I’ve had this since I moved out my my mom’s house.
Banana Nut Crunch - I used to really love this, but I think I burnt myself out on it
Honeycomb
Cinnamon Toast Crunch
Rice Crispy Treats Cereal
Cocoa Pebbles
Rice Chex
Golden Grahams
Quaker Oatmeal Squares
Basic 4
Apple Jacks (But they hurt my mouth, so I rarely eat them.)
And…hot cereal:
Quaker Instant Oatmeal - Any “Fruit & Cream” varieties (Strawberry and Peach being the best, and good if you just add some cold milk instead of boiling water. Mmmmm.)
Plain oatmeal, sweetened with brown sugar. Mmm.
Cream of Wheat & Malt O Meal
Ace0Spades has it almost right - hot cereal is the way to go. The cold stuff is either cardboard or mush. (Some kinds can swing either way, depending whether you stop to make toast.)
The best I’ve found is Rogers brand* 9-grain, with rolled oats and all sorts of other seeds. Half a cup of cereal, one cup of water, Maybe some nuts or dried fruit, and four minutes or so in the microwave. Serve with a bunch of brown sugar (best if it’s caked a bit so you get lumps) and some milk.
*Rogers might be Canadian only. They also make the standard corn syrup up here, but that’s another thread.
I should make a couple of points: stir your cereal halfway through, and keep it covered! Terrible things happen to your microwave if the cover comes off.
