Best one-on-one - Bruce and Chuck in Return of the Dragon.
Best Rumble - The bathroom rumble near the end of The Warriors.

I agree. The Drunken Master and They Live have gotta be tops.
What about fight scenes where only one guy gets thrashed? I’d vote for the scene in Dirty Harry where Scorpio pays to have himself beaten up to frame Harry Callahan. Or maybe, the scene in Mo’ Better Blues where Denzel’s character gets beaten up with his own trumpet. Ouch!

Oops. “And in this ever changing world in which we live in.”
Bad sentence. For a lot of reasons.
Gross Pointe Blank is right up there, but I think my favourite is the fight scene from Raising Arizona - Nicholas Cage’s character fighting the biker (Leonard Smalls?)
How about Patricia Arquette vs. James Gandolfini in TRUE ROMANCE?
[apology]Sorry 'bout the double-post, my Proxy is screwed up slightly[/apology]
…Bruce Willis (Butch Wilson) vs. Ving Rhames (Marcellus Wallace) in Pulp Fiction…
…Samuel Jackson (Shaft) vs. Some Gangbanger in Shaft(2000) “Say my name!” “John Sahft! John Shaft!”…
…Mel Gibson’s guerilla scene in the Patriot…
…and come to think of it Braveheart…
…a rooftop Mike Myers (Charlie Mackenzie) vs. Amanda Plummer (Rose Michaels) in So I Married An Axe Murderer…
O.k. that last one might not be great, but the kicking thing was funny.
punk snot dead,
broccoli!
Kurt Russel and the Chinese dude at the of “Soldier”.
My favorite is from Get Shorty when John Travolta goes to Bones’ house to get his jacket back.
I love that scene.
I second!
John Wayne and Lee Marvin, in any of the flicks they put out together, as well.
Additionally, I submit, for your chuckalicious enjoyment, the fight between Milton Berle and Mel Brooks (At least that’s who I think it was) in It’s a Mad Mad Mad Mad World.
OK, I know I must have missed some posts or something. Why on Earth hasn’t Slapshot been listed yet? That entire movie has good fight scenes, you just have to take your pick (ex: “Hanrahan, your wife’s a dyke!” or when the guy left the bench while his lip was being sewn up, or the fight that followed the famous line “Puttin’ on the foil coach!”). What makes it even better is that, from what I’ve heard, the WHA had some guys like that, they couldn’t skate a lick, but they could beat some ass.
I know you guys will not agree but my favorite fight scene is in “A River Runs Through It”. At the beginning when the boys go home and start fighting in the kitchen. It’s so close in there, loud, and then they smack their poor little mealy mouthed mama. Something about that scene struck me and has stayed with me ever since.
Other than that it might be the fight scene in I think it’s Kalifornia when Patricia Arquette kicks the shit out of that guy. Is that the right movie. The girl goes berserk!
Needs2know
The Four Musketeers starring Michael York and Charlton Heston. Great swordfight at the end of the movie. I thought the light saber fight at the end of Phantom Menace was also awesome.
Marc
I’ve always been a big fan of the fight scene at the end of Swing Kids, when Robert Sean Leonard and Christain Bale are goin’ at it.
Hmm, It has to be Jet Li in ‘Fist of legend’. Probably the final climactic fight, but the fight for control of the school was damn good too.
In the matrix: the fight in the DoJo with Neo vs. Morpheus: great martial arts
I am stunned that a thread about fight scenes has gone on for this long with no mention of Raging Bull. The best boxing sequences ever filmed, bar none! The blood! The sweat! The flying spittle!
Errol Flynn was a very gifted swordsman. Check out his fight scenes in The Adventures of Robin Hood or in Captain Blood, both against Basil Rathbone. You just don’t see swordsmanship like that very often anymore…
Oh, yeah. This was the first one that came to mind when I saw the thread title.
Not nominated so far…the final fight between Jackie Chan and Benny “The Jet” Urquidez in Wheels on Meals. Story has it that they were truly pissed at each other, went ‘off-script,’ and did some real damage.
I have to agree with “The Quiet Man.” I only saw the film once, years ago, but that scene sticks out. The fight seemed to cover miles and go on for a solid half hour.
Bruce Willis vs. Alexander Gudonov (sp?)at the end of “Die Hard.”
For gunfights? Robert De Niro and Val Kilmer vs. the LAPD in “Heat.”
