I can’t come up with a good salad dressing joke, so I’ll just mention that I find it ironic that, as the linked story states, “Buchanan’s visit had evoked controversy on campus because it fell on the birthday of the late Mexican-American labor leader Cesar Chavez. Buchanan favors tighter controls on immigration.”

Cesar Chavez was a third-generation American whose family had been in the country since the 1880s. He was strongly opposed to illegal immigration. When he was in charge of the United Farm Workers, he instructed his members to report illegals to the INS and to picket INS offices, demanding a crackdown on illegal immigrants. In 1973, UFW members blocked and physically attacked people trying to enter the U.S. from Mexico. Based on his actions, Cesar Chavez was probably somewhat more vehemently opposed to immigration than Buchanan.

He smelled more of anchovies, too.

I wish somebody at M$NBC would douse him with it right now. He’s currently on air blathering about the Pope. IANAC, and I don’t agree with a lot of the things the Pope has done, but he’s a damn sight better human being than Buchanan could hope to be.

Meanwhile, back at the ranch…

I guess the ultimate indignity would be if it had been French dressing.

Everybody seems to be russian to make a pun.

Yes, olive you people should be ashamed.

I always caesar chance to make a pun.

I’ve long had a fantasy where I see one of these holier-than-thous and I land some sort of gooey foodstuff on his head.

Someone else has lived my dream.

In regards to his post-incident damage control, I wonder how he plans to spinach.

Way back, when the Spaniards were colonizing Amerigo, they decided to import mayonnaise from their home country. Unfortunately the ship that was bringing the first load ran into a violent storm and was sunk. It happened to occur on the fifth of May. To this day that is commemorated as the Sinko de Mayo.

If the kid had not been caught, that would of been just the tip of the iceberg.

But seriously on the OP (less Buchanan), the best one I saw in person was,

Pope to get more jet fighters

It was referring to Pope Air Force Base in Goldsboro, NC.

As for what happens to Buchanan, I don’t carrot all.

Cheese, how long can this thread stay fresh and continue to sprout? So far I love olive it!

“How many divisions…”

Actually, Pope is outside Fayetteville, adjacent to Fort Bragg. (Spring Lake is the immediate adjacent community, if you care.) The AFB in Goldsboro is Seymour-Johnson, which does in fact get the obvious double entendre puns.

Some might say that this was rather crouton the part of the young dressing-douser, but I happen to think it was pretty funny.

Yeah, no kidding. You try telling people you were born at Seymour Johnson, and see if they take YOU seriously.

::has no witty pun::

Certainly not. He’s just arugula guy.

Couple of things: one serious, one not so.

  1. Buchanan, while being a conservative pundit, is actual a great conversationalist and a very nice guy. Just saying…

  2. Greatest headline for a pub I ever worked on…early 2000 at a political pub.

We had a poll that showed that Clinton, were he allowed to run again, would soundly defeat the presumptive nominee. One of the kid editors wrote the headline.

Clinton Licks Younger Bush

And got away with it. None of the senior types caught it.

I still chuckle over that one.
