Best Industrial/Experimental/Whatever Cds

Negativeland… how could we forget negativeland?

Any band that can piss off U2 as bad as they did can’t be bad.

Ween, either “The Pod” or “God, Ween, Satan, The Oneness” is perfectly swell. And “On Avery Island” by Neutral Milk Hotel is nice as well.

The Blue Men play percussion instruments. Some of them standard, some of them brand new that they invented themselves. Everything from standard drums to PVC pipe to…well, “creations.” I could name them, but you have to see/hear them to understand. There is also a band that plays with every BMG company, of which there are four. In three of those four companies the pit band plays zither, stick and a drum kit. There are all of these instruments plus many more on the BMG disc.

Nym - who is the resident BMG expert 'cause she works for 'em in Chicago.

Arrangement Schmarrangement. I’m married. What’s the difference? My husband thinks my music “sucks ass”.

Amazingly, I have not been to the Metro…but I live around the corner from the Vic, where Gwar likes to appear from time to time.

and what is your view on Das Ich by the by?..how fun to find other people with my taste in music! I ran right home from work to listen to Ministry in celebration.

Hehe…alright…it’s settled then, i’m comin up to Chicago
Das Ich is freakin awesome, good mix of aggro, darkwave anda whee bit of goth, plus they’re German and you can’t beat that.

I’ll leave the door unlocked. Don’t be alarmed by the medieval weaponry on our walls…it’s just for decoration…I THINK

No sir…you can not. now look at me…I’m all sweaty just thinking about it. I’d better not come back to this thread.

“Rite of Spring” by Stravinsky was some good experimental music.

Hehe…i really don’t get my fascination with Germans, especially their musak, afterall i’m a pure bred Slav(99%). I should despise the Arian bastards who ravaged my home land on more then one occasion. I’m a disgrace to my people…:frowning:

Jar…have you heard the any of the new Rammstein tracks(Sonne, Adios, Mutter, Links)?

I’ve got Sonne, the Sonne remixes and Links. Sounds like in the off-season Mr. Lindemann learned how to sing (was that out loud?)

I’ve promised myself that I wouldn’t listen to Adios, Mutter or Ohne Dich until the album comes out…some of it has to be a surprise for God’s sake.

I’ve also seen the video for Sonne.

And right now, I’m wondering if I already know you…

You might…if you frequent Yahoo chat, or yahoo clubs…or the AcidPunk server of napster. By the way…i shall provide my yahoo and nappy monickers to jogg the memory(VIVIsectVnV, skinnyvogtvnv,funkervogt_execution,rammsteincommi,skinny242)

The Residents , IMHO, put out some of the absolute best experimental music during the last 20 years. “The Commercial Album”, “Duck Stab/Buster & Glen”, “Freakshow”, “Eskimo”,are all extraordinary. However, the “Goosebump” recording featuring a re-working of Mother Goose rhymes and played on instruments purchased at Toys R Us gets the nod as my all-time favorite experimental work.

Current 93 puts out Goth/Folk/Experimental music that just seems to get better and better. Last years’s “I Have a Special Plan for the World” blows me away every time I listen to it. Also, “Thunder Perfect Mind” and “Earth Covers Earth” should be well known and loved by all who appreciate this type of music.

Psychic TV was one of the amazing bands that formed by the break-up of the groundbreaking group “Throbbing Gristle”. Genesis P-Orridge and crew produced music years ahead of its time. Check out “Dreams less Sweet”.

Tuxedomoon was originally on the Resident’s remarkable Ralph Records label. Their “Desire” recording very good. I especially like the “No tears” EP too.

Other old-time favorites include many mentioned in posts above as well as: The Hafler Trio, Chris and Cosey, Lustmord, Art Bears, Pere Ubu, and Muslimgauze. I also want to mention a very hard-to-find recording by Nash the Slash called “Dreams and Nightmares”. It is a very beautiful and disturbing work. Another favorite in my albums-that-I-never-found-on-CD collection is one called “Music for Sick Queers” by the German Shepherds. Has anyone ever heard this? It’s mindblowing and more than a bit frightening.

Some more new or still recording artists (and relatively unknown) that deserve mention in this thread: People Like Us, Tape Beatles, The Moon Lay Hidden Beneath a Cloud, Attrition, Autopsia, Holland Skin Tunnel, Fire & Ice, and Sol Invictus.

A final recommendation: Pick up the “emre” collection from last year featuring Coh, Coil, Cyclobe,Ovum, Andrew Poppy, souRce research, and Leif Elggren. The Deluxe edition was, according to the box, limited to only 500 copies, but there may be more around of a “non-deluxe” variety. This has an almost permanent place in my car’s CD player and makes getting to work to manage 50 hard-to-manage people a whole lot more bearable!

I adore C93…Lucifer over London is a classic, no doubt about it. Now, i’ve heard that Death In June is in the same vain as C93…is this true?

Something fun is a cover album of Kraftwerk songs by Slovenian bands called “Trans Slovenia Express.” Includes a band called “Kraftbach.” Took me a while to convince my S.O. through meticulous translation of lyrics that, yes, Laibach is a bunch of creepy neo-facists. Geburt einer Nation? Ein Reich, ein Blut? Shudder.
Another vote for Crash Worship, and !Tchkung! There was also an outfit around Portland that went through some transformations but was nice-- Hitting Birth/ 20 Foot Man (I think-- short lived)/ King Black Acid.
H.M.242-- I’ve always been simultaneously impressed and distressed by the number of references you’ve crammed into your moniker. It’s quite a team baseball cap you’re wearing.

How could anyone forget the Remix Wars Vol. 4, Funkervogt vs. Velvet Acid Christ? With masterpieces like Civil War(Trippin’ in Boot Camp Remix), Fortunes of War, and Futile, it’s one of my favorite electro/industrial albums.

Velvet Acid Christ’s evil with a barbarian Teutonic beat. Gotta love it.

I’ve told other friends about them and they’re just damn hard to describe, but the best I’ve come up with is “techno-tribal”.

Coolness beyond measure.

Well…i’m afraid that you might have misslead your SO. Sure, on the surface Laibach seemed like neo-nazis…everybody but their fan and the band themselves pegged em as such. But, alas…Laibach is one of those bands, that uses “shock tactics” to get their message across. By preforming in Ghestapo(sp?) outfits, singing in german(at times), they attempted to ridicule all that was associated with fascism/communism. One can also look it at in this fasion…why would a bunch of slovanians be neo-nazis?! The problem with laibach, is that they never clearly established that they were a parody, thus leading to multiple specualtions on their political affiliations. But one can see this blunt attitude, when they tackled the issue of Religion in Jesus Christ Superstar, and their multiple covers of Beatles Songs and other pop favorites. By being as blunt and stoic(sp?) as possible, they created an alter ego for the ages. So, there you have it…Laibach were not neo-nazis, but they sure did a great job of acting like they were.I think a perfect example of this…would be the song Perspektiv…it basically outlines the “goals” of Laibach.

Oh…and spanks for the comment on my name

Why would Slovenians be Neos? I don’t know, but things to ponder. . . For the same reason that Croatia’s Ustasha (don’t know the latin spelling) would have collaborated with the Nazis, but more so (Slovenians tend to think of themselves as well-nigh Austrian-Germanic)? Does the phrase “Neue Slowenische Kunst” sound SLAVIC to you? Ok, perhaps they aren’t fascist, but nationalist at least, and nationalism, when phrased with German lyrics, comes off poorly.
I see your point, though, and their official site makes no mention of ideology (unofficial fan sites I’m not too sure about. . . the one I looked at carefully had an excerpt of the whole intro to Thus Spake Zarathustra, a thing on Total War, and a section on Nazi art), and they seem to have participated in some anti-fascist events. I’ll accept that they’re parodying, but a fine point of parody is carefully making sure that no one thinks you’re serious, and they didn’t succeed in this (they seem to have an “alternative” fan base that doesn’t recognize the parody). I’ll try to see them with more humor from now on-- if it’s parody, then they are terribly clever and sophisticated with their sources.
Now Front242, on the other hand. Now THAT’S a bunch of fascists. . .

"Now Front242, on the other hand. Now THAT’S a bunch of fascists. ."

Wow…the Belgian Boyz…nazis?!
I’ve heard a couple people say that before, but it was mostly based on the idea that 242 wanted to “control the body” via their music. So one assumed they wanted to control the mind and will of the masses, hence the link to fascim/communism. But i never bought in to that, i just think 242 wants to get the body moving…hence the genre they created…EBM. I’d really like to hear your interpetation though, i’m not exectly sure about the true intentions of 242…they could be devious…or not, but i’d like for you to elaborate.
