Anybody out there know what it might be? Which one is the best? Any suggestions? Please help, i need to know, very important.
Isn’t that an oxymoron? Kind of like appetizing vomit, or charismatic Vice President.
Are you planning SDNY Karaoke night?
That’d be cool…
I’ve never been, but you might want to look into Village Karaoke. Its not a karaoke bar per se, but you rent a room (with karaoke equipment, of course) and bring/order food. You can sing to your heart’s content without having to wait for some tone-deaf drunk to get off the mike (unless the tone-deaf drunk is one of your friends, in which case its your own fault for inviting him).
Karaoke? In GQ? Manhattan? Out! Out I say!
To MPSIMS.
There are no good karaoke bars in Manhattan. Trust me, I’ve looked.
The best one is in Long Island City at a bar called Ryan’s on Wednesday nights.
You can find a karaoke room in a lot of Japanese restaurants in Manhattan, though. The English song selections suck and there is no audience; it’s just people sitting in a booth singing into a menu.
The best karaoke bar in the world is The Mint in San Francisco on Market Street. Damn, I miss that place. They had bowls of free condoms at the door, too.
sorry to post in GQ, needed an answer quick. this is for an indie film shoot. Yes, i know the Karaoke thing is… well how does one describe it… lame? but it’s business so to speak. The song needed for it needs to be a Crosby, Stills & Nash song too (stop laughing!).
thanx anyway kids. but i’ll bet if there were to be a SDNY Karaoke night, WITH FREE BEER, those in the locale would come.
wonder if we could get beer company to sponsor an SD night at a bar, Amstel seems to do it quite often… they’ve got a web site with photos of people getting drunk at bars all over the US. (not sure if it’s appropriate to give up the web address in SDMB).
Soul, if you’re giving away free beer, the SDNYers will fucking well come and hang out with you in an abbatoir.
The Harley Davidson Cafe actually does a karaoke night every week, but I don’t know how useful it would be for a film shoot (it still wouldn’t look like a karaoke bar).
I also think there’s another place in the village near the Christopher St subway station, but, again, I’ve never been.
Maybe you could pick a bar that looks good for the film, get Amstel or someone else to sponsor a karaoke night, and fill your film with SD folk as singing extras.
(Just a thought.)
Uke, may i call you Uke? yeah, i’m working on it…
MetalliAsh, You may be onto something there. wonder how many SD’ers would show up for an indie film as extras in a karaoke bar without getting paid, but perhaps free beer afterwards. hmmmm…
… is a closed one.
