Best loves of all time....

I know this is a kind of corny question, but it’s a good break from the political questions.

I’m intentionally not asking about the best love stories of all time, but the best loves. By this, I mean something enduring, not a Romeo and Julliet, but a couple who went through hardships and came out of it together, because of their devotion to one another.

Sorry, I can’t even give an example.

I know this isn’t exactly what you’re looking for but I was just thinking of how pre-teen to young teen love is so awesome.

It’s about the only age I can think of where there was no cynicism involved, no fears of heartbreak and no trepidation (after the love is requited of course)

A simple peck on the cheek or dare I say a peck on the lips would be enough make you giddy for days.

sigh My how things go downhill from there.
ok, I just made myself want to puke.

My grandparents.

In the beginning, they met at choir at church. (He was, at the time, dating the woman who later became my OTHER grandmother - my dad’s mom!). Soon, they were dating, he proposed, and they set a date for their wedding 6 months down the line.

Then WWII got heated, and he found out he was “shipping out” (but only to New Jersey.) She panicked, “ohmygosh, what will we do?” “Easy,” he said. “We’re getting married. Tomorrow.” Sure enough, 24 hours after picking up their marriage license, they were married, and she moved with him to the Army base in Monmouth County.

My grandmother was always telling me about her grandparents, married for 50 years. “I’ll give you 51 years,” my grandfather would tease her. “51 years, and not a day more. Then I’m out of here.”

I never saw a couple more in love, even through the daily boredom of married life. Throw in a few traumas, a couple of kids, and finally my grandfather’s bout with cancer - pancreatic to start, then just pretty much all over. They gave him 6 months to live.

6 years later we had their 51st wedding anniversary party. He died the next night, surrounded by all his family, laying on his wedding bed.

51 years, he always said. He was right!

What a great story!

[sub]I had to search for a tissue, though.[/sub]

Not me. That’s just some trouble I’m having with my contact lens. They still irritate the eye a little in the mornings…

What, no one else has a story to share? I showed you mine!

BUMP

I always thought Hume Cronyn and Jessica Tandy were a sweet couple.

I have the one that’s the impetus for this post…

But it’s mineblush

I think, obviously, think it’s a nice story…though badly written and melodramatic…
