I notice Manny’s listed as a charter member…do ex-mods get lifetime charter subs (barring the handful who’ve been banned, natch), or has he been keeping his sub up?
Moderators get complimentary lifetime subscriptions, and that covers retired mods as well. manhattan’s last post was seven and a half years ago, and his last board activity was about a year ago.
 Mods have been banned here? That must have been an interesting read.
The trouble with “Best Mod Quote” threads is that they immediately turn into “Manhattan” threads.
Actually, no active moderator has ever been banned. One poster who had formerly been a moderator (not a “handful”) was later banned. This happened more than 12 years ago, so it’s a bit of ancient history.
That was also long before we had subscriptions. And of course former mod Spectre of Pithecanthropus was briefly banned as well, but that was many years before he became a moderator. I think that was manhattan’s handiwork.
I thought it was Lynn. That happened before suspensions were normally used, and in any case today the same offense would have at worst drawn a warning. At any rate, it’s the origin of his username, which was originally Javaman. When he returned from the land of the departed he was just a ghost of his former self.
Moderators can do no wrong. How could it be otherwise?
Oh, go on with you. If he was banned, he must have been at least a bit of a handful.
Marley did a wrong when he banned the whole board.
Hell, I gone done wrong not a week ago.
(Why was the Nate Silver thread in Elections closed? - About This Message Board - Straight Dope Message Board - post #10)
I just hope the rest of the mods agree with his assessment of the poster in question, if you catch my drift.
She.
And yes she is.
You know, it’s election night, and I’m feeling good, and I’d like to nominate this Colibri post for “best mod quote I have ever seen” (sorry for not quoting, I’m a little drunk and honestly I was expecting Cinderella-style hordes of hummingbirds would show up to help me compose my missive). That was hilarious and thread-appropriate, and I salute you, Sir/Madam.
Thenk kyeu. It’s election night and I’m a little drunk myself. That took some effort to type.
Sir, FWIW.
Maybe I’m just dense, which I do not rule out :D, but I have yet to figure out using multi-quote. Just can’t make it work. Nested quotes are probably even further beyond me.
You’re just jealous because you never said anything as good.
Nested quotes just plain don’t work. From what I understand, it’s a configurable option in vBulletin, and TPTB here have it disabled. In order to get the nested quotes like you see in some posts, you have to hand-craft them by simply typing your own
tags and cutting-and-pasting the pieces you want where you want them.
For multi-quote, the story is a bit more complicated. They work, or maybe not, depending on what browser / operating system you are using. I’ve tried it on my Winders XP machine, using Firefox 3.x, where it works just fine. But I spend most of my on-line time using my Ubuntu Linux machine with Firefox 3.x, where multi-quote doesn’t work at all, for reasons unknown. So for me, if I want to use multi-quotes, I have to do the cutting-and-pasting thing for that too.
ETA: When I want to hand-craft posts like that, I open a separate plain-text plain-editor window (gedit in Linux, or Notepad or similar in Winders) and compose the post there.
I virtually line this board with witticisms, but does anyone appreciate it? Do I get a kissy ATMB thread? Noooooooooo… [/Rodney Dangermod]
I found a lot of my witticisms lining bird cages, so go figure.
