Bugs Bunny delivering a cup of carrots to Wile E. Coyote in Compressed Hare. “Are you in, genius? Are you in, capable? In, solent? In, describable? In, bearable?..”
Rocky the mobster: “Shaddup shaddinup!”
Mugsy to Rocky in the cereal factory: "Gee, Rocky. Dis is fun. Just like in the amusement park.
Rocky: Shaddup!
Scottish lighthouse keeper, on spying a mouse in the lighthouse: There’s a moose loose in the hoose!
In “The Henpecked Duck”, Daffy is ordered by the wife to sit on the egg while she visits mother. Daffy does a magic trick with the egg, resulting in the egg disappearing. He panics when the wife returns, so he puts a round white doorknob in the nest. As he raises his butt high to get on the egg, it rotates around so that the shaft is sticking up. His reaction as he sits down on it is priceless.
When Wile E Coyote dons the Batman outfit. He’s zooming all over, then finally settles into a level cruise, relaxed…flap…flap…flap…he’s relaxed taking a few moments to enjoy the pure bliss of flying…flap…flap…he turns to the camera with a contented smile and…
In that same episode, there is a bit with an alligator trying to get the egg. Daffy is swimming underwater, with only his hand sticking out above the water, holding the egg. At one point the alligator gets in Daffy’s way, and sits low in the water with only his two eye bumps showing. The Daffy hand goes right up to the alligator, and goes BETWEEN the eye bumps, and continues on its merry way.
“Highdiving Hare”. Yosemite Sam tries to force Bugs into diving 500 feet into a shallow tub of water, and of course Sam ends up taking the plunge several times. After a while they don’t even bother to show how Bugs tricked Sam yet again, and we see Sam making three or four more round trips up and down.
Ever notice that EVERYTHING ridden by Yosemite Sam is a mule?
He’s got an army of ants carrying off picnic fixings and he’s hollering, Ya Mule, Ya.
Same with an elephant battering a fortress, Ya Mule, Ya!
“Ah gots you outnumbered, one to one!” (Talk about confidence!)
Probably best one though, is when they’re competing for Mayor. Bugs puts on a Teddy Roosevelt face and says, “I speak softly and carry a big stick!”
Then Sam yells, “Yeah? Well, I speak LOUDLY and carry a BIGGER STICK! And I use it, too.” <WHAM>
No idea which one it was.
Daffy says something along the lines of such-and-such is so… and the quote is “Or my name isn’t Daffy Dumas Duck!”
I always wondered if ‘Dumas’ was a mispronunciation of a similar word that has a ‘b’ in the middle and an extra ‘s’ at the end
Junyer Bear examines the label on a can, spelling out the letters: “G - U - N - P - O - W - D - E - R … derr, ‘tobacco’. I am a good speller, I am! C - A - T, ‘dog’. B - A - T, ‘Rhode Island’.”
Somewhere in the Duck Rabbit Duck trilogy, Daffy briefs Elmer to ensure he shoots Bugs next time round. It doesn’t work, and Daffy’s the one who gets a bullet in the face again.
He sighs patiently, then places his arm round Elmer’s shoulder and leads him gently away.
Elmer: “More bwiefing?”
Daffy: “More briefing.”
Also, in the opening credits montage on one of the Golden Collection’s documentaries, there’s a very brief clip showing the coyote standing under a huge teetering rock. He give a horrified look to camera, then the rock immediately plunges onto his head. That’s all there is to it, but it’s so perfectly timed that it makes me laugh every time.
We’ve got Chuck Jones to thank for staging expertise like that, but spare a thought for Michael Maltese too. He wrote many of the very best Warner Brothers cartoons, including For Scent-imental Reasons, The Rabbit of Seville, Duck Amuck, Bully for Bugs, Ali Baba Bunny, Robin Hood Daffy, What’s Opera, Doc? and Duck Dodgers in the 24½th Century.
Maltese often worked with Jones as his director, and deserves to be just as well known. It was when those two men made a cartoon together that something truly magical happened.
Foghorn Leghorn—When he plays a trick on a dog by feeding him a bone
that has a giant spring inside so that when the dog eats it, he turns into
a giant spring. When Foghorn walks off he says, “I sure hated to SPRING
that one on that BONEHEAD.” “Spring” “Bone” Ha Ha! I made a funny!
