Best Movie Food Scenes

Maybe it is some kind of fetish, maybe it started with the spaghetti kiss from Lady and the Tramp, but I don’t think a movie is complete unless it has at least one good eatin’ scene. Sometimes I have to eat food that goes with a movie. For example I know I’m going to get a craving for Italian food (or even Chinese take-out) when I watch The Godfather so I prepare some spaghetti and meat sauce beforehand. Then when Clemenza is showing Michael how he makes his meat sauce I can give free rein to my salivary glands.

Does anybody else have any favorite cooking or eating scenes from movies?

For Italian food the scene of the old mobsters talking about the right marinara sauce in My Blue Heaven was both funny and sad.
My favorite is the cooking scene in Iron Monkey, particularly the making of noodles.

Denathor’s mad eating while Pippin sings in ROTK.

So creepy.

Normally, I hate eating scenes (because my biggest pet peeve is chewing noises). I can barely watch the one in the Matrix (with Cipher and the agents eating steak) because of the chewing noises.

Well, my personal faves, just off the top of my head:

The food scene in Tom Jones , where Tom and the hooker stare into each others eyes while they scarf down all quantities of food

The hot dog/fellatio scene in Fast Times At Ridgemont High

All of Chocolat

Almost forgot - The egg scene from Cool Hand Luke

Food is good!

A couple of funny scenes came to my mind…how about that scene in “When Harry Met Sally” when Sally imitates an orgasm in the middle of the restaurant. I also like the scene at the cafeteria in “Animal House” where John Belushi pops that egg and acts like he’s a giant zit.

My favorite food/eating movies:

Tampopo
Big Night
Eat Drink Man Woman
Babette’s Feast
Werner Herzog Eats His Shoe

Most of Big Night involves great food scenes, but my favorite is at the end, where it’s the next morning and Secondo makes an omelette for his brother Primo. The scene plays out with no music and neither character speaking a word, just two brothers aware of their fate, one effortlessly making an omelette for the other. Great scene.

I’ve been beaten to the dinner scene in Tom Jones, but it is a classic.

Any bean eating scene in a Terrence Hill film. Especially in the two Trinity films and in My Name is Nobody.

The “Ole 96’er” scene in the otherwise bland John Candy/Dan Ackroyd comedy, The Great Outdoors. One of Candy’s better film moments.

Dammit, ArchiveGuy, I wanted to name Babette’s Feast. This is a spectacular movie and the meal as metaphor is wonderfully done.

9 1/2 Weeks

What did I win?

I’ll see Babet’s Feast

and I’ll raise you the ravioli scene from Point of No Return.

What makes that scene so amazing was that it was all shot in one continuous take, and Tucci was actually doing the cooking. No stunt eggs were harmed. Truly on my top 10 list of utterly fantastical movie scenes of all time.

*“Any bean eating scene in a Terrence Hill film.” * - **widdershins **

Amazing! That was the second thing I thought of after *The Godfather * scenes. I didn’t think anybody would mention it. Similar to those scenes is one from The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly when Lee van Cleef goes to that guy’s house and eats his stew.

I’ve never seen *Big Night * but I will definitely make an effort to find it.

Of course the creepiest food scene is toward the end of “The Cook, the Thief His Wife, and Her Lover”

I still shudder to think of that scene. insert barfing smiley

Thanks for bringing that up tdn - I meant to say that, since it’s the most amazing part of the scene, but I guess I forgot it while typing. That’s been happening alot to me toda

Someone is Killing the Great Chefs of Europe has to fit in here somewhere. Food and death, two of the great inevitables of existence. Not a great movie, just an interesting concept.

The hot dog/fellatio scene in Fast Times At Ridgemont High

Was that in the deleted scenes? It’s just that I’ve never seen that. Is it similar to the carrot/fellatio scene?

Ah, but they don’t hold a candle to the bean eating scene in Blazing Saddles! (So to speak.)

Nobody mentioned the opening of Se7en?

No?

Well, I love the dinner scene from Coupon: The Movie. An excellently shot scene, in my opinion.
