Best movie you've seen this year?

A tie - Maria Full of Grace and Hero.

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkeban I’m not a particularly huge Harry Potter fan, so I walked into this one with no huge expectations. But man, what a fun movie! “I swear upon my honor that I am up to no good.” I love this movie!

Mean Girls and Saved! These were essentially the same movie. Who’d have thought that Lindsey Lohan would break out of the ghetto of awful Disney remakes, or that Tina Fey would break out of the ghetto of Crappy SNL Movies? An even bigger shock: An edgy teen movie with a Christian Rock soundtrack! These two have replaced Heathers in the culture.

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind would be #1, with (and I’m sure I’m in the minority here) **The Manchurian Candidate ** remake as second. I haven’t seen Garden State yet but am really looking forward to it.

I love these kinds of threads because I’m usually at least a year behind in films (good ones, anyway, my friends and family drag me out to see a lot of the big Hollywood stuff that I probably wouldn’t bother with otherwise) and I can use this as a ‘shopping list’.

I just watched Adaptation this week. Very strange film, but it does make one think. I had to look up the Kaufmans on IMDB and was surprised that Susan Orleans also got a writing credit, as I had assumed she was just a character in the film. Sometimes it’s fun to watch films that make you question reality, like tripping without the hangover.

SEE BrainGlutton! I’m not alone!

Nowhere in Africa German/Swahili with English subtitles. Wonderful movie about a Refugee German Jewish Family in Kenya 1938 ish through the WWII.

Definitely Eternal Sunshine. Saw it twice in the theaters.

Still waiting to see Hero though, so that may be changing…

The best movies I’ve seen so far this year are The Butterfly Effect, **Foolproof, HP:tPOA ** and Bunny Lake is Missing. Yeah, I know the last one came out in 1965 but this year was the first time in decades that it was on!

Best films that I’ve seen this year would have to be Kamchatka a wonderful Chilean film doing the film fest rounds, Contol Room, and Pieces of April
