Best Nintendo Wii Games?

I finally got a Wii this Sunday after 7 months of trying, so I need suggestions for the best games to add to my collection.

The only game I got outside of Wii Sports is Legend of Zelda, so I’m wide open for other good picks.

The only Wii games I’ve played through so far is Super Paper Mario. That’s a ton of fun. Also, Rayman Raving Rabids is my favorite game that makes great use of the Wii controller. Of the microgame games, it’s by far my favorite. A lot of people like Warioware. I don’t.

Well, Zelda should pretty much consume your life for a few days, weeks, months. There is really no need to get anything else yet However, at this point you might want to consider something that is like a “party” game, like Mario Party 8. One of the great things about the Wiii is that it is easy for someoen to pick up and play and so a game like this where you can get together and have just fun playing simple games is pretty cool.

I found Twilight Princess to be mind-blowingly satisfying. Where “party games” are concerned, I’ll second pulykamell’s favorable remarks about Raving Rabids. I wasn’t particularly impressed with the overall quality of Warioware, but the new Mario Party looks kinda fun at first blush. Also, If you enjoyed Katamari (which I did), then Elebits might be for you-- quirky gameplay in a similar vein with the addition of Wiimoteness.
As an aside, you ought to buy a classic controller and dig into virtual console. Gotta relive the glory days, right? Also, go play with the Wii’s weather thingy and spin the globe a little. I love doing that.

Where did you get yours? I had been looking on and off for a few months and finally bought it from Walmart online. They had a bundle deal 3 games plus the console and a console gadget like extra controller for $460. I got Paper Mario, tiger woods, and zelda. Bowling on wii sports is a lot of fun with people. It looks like Walmart.com still shows them in stock.

Tiger woods is a little tedious. I had my brother in law over this weekend and the three of us got bored with golf. It really is just like real golf!

Paper Mario is fun I recommend it.

If only there was a way to kill the rambling, unnecessary story portions of Super Paper Mario it might be a perfect video game.

I have fallen away from Zelda.

Tiger Woods Golf is impressive, but not addictive.

Still waiting for the lightsaber game…

Amen. Perhaps my only complaint.

How does it compare to, say, the XBox or PS version of Tiger Woods? I really enjoy the golf game that comes with Wii Sports, but obviously that’s just a skeleton of a full-fledged golf game. The XBox version of Tiger Woods was thoroughly addictive. Is the Wii version less so? And, if so, why? And how well does the controller work with the game? I imagine a finer touch would be required on something like that than the Wii Sports golf game.

On the topic of golf…
I forgot to mention-- under no circumstances should you consider buying Super Swing Golf. The mechanics suck compared to the golf game that comes with the Wii (little things like the way SSG represents the topography of a putting green will drive you nuts), it takes forever to play a hole, and the computer cheats like mad.

I’ve never played it on another platform- I was amused by it, and I think the controls are neat, it doesn’t seem overly hard. It may well be that I am not interested in playing a console golf game in my apartment.

I ended up waiting outside a local Target early on Sunday morning. They supposedly get shipments nearly every week, and hold them til Sunday morning. A few weeks back I was #53 in line…and they had 50 units. So this time I got there at like 6:45 and brought a book, lol. The employees at Target seemed to be often uninformed, and depending on who you talked to, they would either tell you to come on Sunday or that they had no Wiis and no idea when they would get them.

As far as I know, Target is the only place that you can actually expect them to have the Wiis at a particular time and date. All the other places here sell them as they get them, which makes it a complete random chance that you happen to call them within the hour they get them and then sell out.

I’ll add my support to Zelda and Super Paper Mario. Also, Wii Play is worth the extra ten bucks if you need a second controller.

If, like me, you missed the Gamecube era, there are plenty of cheap games you can pick up to catch up on. There are lists all over the internet of good ones like this from IGN. Note: You need a gamecube controller and memory card to play/save gamecube games.

And definitely check out the Virtual Console. There are some great classics on there now like the original Super Mario Brothers, which are still fun on a bun to play through. I just visited my brother-in-law for the weekend and we took turns passing around the controller and playing SMB the whole time. Nintendo has hinted that new stuff (like Bejeweled type games I assume) are coming soon too.

Zelda, Paper Mario, WarioWare, and Elebits are great. Godfather Blackhand edition is supposed to be pretty great, too - it’s a Grand Theft Auto clone, but you can use the controls to throttle and beat your enemies, which sounds incredibly fun.

One of the best games of all time comes out next Tuesday for Wii: Resident Evil 4, with brand new motion controls to boot. You have to buy this.

100% agreed. If you haven’t already played this on the Cube or PS2 it is a must own.
I’ve only played the new Zelda and it was well worth the time. I’ve started playing the new Paper Mario which seems almost too easy right now.

I loved, loved, loved Tiger Woods on the cube but I’m hesitant to play on the Wii.
The thing I liked most about the game on the cube was how precise you could allign a shot taking into account wind, backspin, elevation change, etc. then line it up within a few pixels left or right. With the Wii swinging motion I’m afraid I’d be throwing the whole accuracy thing out the window.

I must second this - especially the “cheats like mad” bit.

I have not personally tried it but the manual indicates there are two modes.

  1. Where you swing the controller.
  2. A legacy mode where you use the nunchuck and main remote without swinging.

Ah, good to know. Now how to find out if it plays in 16:9 widescreen mode like Zelda and PaperMario do.

I got my Wii as a bundle (through Dell.com of all places) a couple of months ago. It came with:
[ul]
[li]Rayman Raving Rabbids (Fun game but not a lot of substance. Many mini-games[/li][li]Madden NFL 2006 (Supposedly simple controls, but my friend and I struggled through the game for an hour and a half and 4 beers before giving up).[/li][li]Wario Ware (My favorite game on the Wii so far. Lots of minigames and very quirky.)[/li][li]Super Monkey Ball Ball (Lame. I got bored with this game right off the bat.)[/li][li]Excite Truck (OK game made better by letting the user load up an SD card with MP3s and having that be the soundtrack for the races.)[/li][li]Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess (I don’t have the attention span needed to get out of the town for some reason.)[/li]I also bought

[li]Rampage (fun, but the controllers are a bit difficult to master. Adding the nunchuk is best)[/li][li]Marvel Superheroes (haven’t tried it yet, actually)[/li][li]Wii Play (barely worth the $10.00)[/li][li]Tamagotchi: Party On! (I thought this would be a fun game for the kids, but it isn’t. I’m not sure who this is for because the graphics appeal to the Candyland set, but there is so much reading involved that excludes that group.)[/li]
Next to buy:
[li]Cooking Mama: Cook Off (I’ve heard good things about this one. Will buy used tho)[/li][li]Trauma Center[/li][li]Big Brain Academy[/li][/ul]

I played this and found it awful. Then again, I don’t like Warioware (and love Raving Rabids), either, so you may actually enjoy it. Graphics are atrocious. Yeah, yeah, yeah–I know that the Wii isn’t about the graphics but they could at least put some effort into it. I thought the games were repetitive and pretty boring.

Funny, this is where I am too. Not stuck, just, not interested anymore.
