Another weird year - all over the place stylistically. For me, it was between Tricky, Elastica, Yo La Tengo and Oasis - in the end I’m going with Elastica, because “Stutter” is great and any band that rips off Wire that much has the right sense of music history.
For me, it was between Tricky and Oasis. Though Oasis kind of annoy me, that album really was fantastic and more of a soundtrack to that year and 1996 for me, so i cast my vote for them.
Foo Fighters. Still love that record.

Easiest one yet: Trace remains one of my favorite albums.
We’re not that far from the post-album era, at least as I measure it. But while we’re still there, Joan Osborne’s Relish is my pick. I love pretty much every track on that album, including the way-overplayed “One of Us.”
Of all the Bazilian/Hyman/Chertoff collaborations involving different artists (Osborne, Cyndi Lauper, themselves as The Hooters), IMHO this one’s the best.
My favorite of the songs that got airplay was “Right-Hand Man.” Of the ones that didn’t, I’m torn between “Ladder” and her cover of Dylan’s “The Man in the Long Black Coat.”
Easy: Oasis of course!
Mellon Collie… for me.
Though I voted Oasis and considered Tricky, the Pumpkins album is the one I listen to most on this list, by a considerable margin.
Had to go with Tricky - my same friend that produced Neneh Cherry helped write and produce Maxinquaye. He is pretty straight edge - his stories of Tricky being so stoned that he focused on tuning the tone of one drum for hours and hours are hilarious.
I absolutely relish Relish. It has what is probably my favorite song of all time: “Spider Web.” The rest of the album kicks ass too.

Mellon Collie is the only one of these albums that I know, so it gets my vote by default.
I don’t care what anyone says, (What’s the Story) Morning Glory? is a tremendous collection of pop songs. So that’s what I voted for.
