I have a business trip to the Memphis area coming up at the end of October and am looking to stay in Tunica* and do some gaming, possibly poker. I have been playing online extensively for over a year and been part of a couple regular home games for a few years and have won more than I’ve put in (honest! I’ve kept track on a spreadsheet that my wife checks regularly). So I’m not too worried about getting taken to the cleaners immediately, though I do realize the level of play will be quite a bit higher than what I’m used to seeing.
Anyway, I’m wondering if any SDMB-ers have stayed and played in Tunica and can offer a suggestion of a casino/hotel with a good poker room. Thanks!
- I do realize Tunica is about 45 minutes or so away from Memphis.
** This is my first post after a seven month SDMB hiatus. Hooray!
Well, since no one else has chimed in…
Note: I don’t go to the casinos down in Tunica to gamble, just to eat and people watch.
There’s a shuttle service between the various casinos, so if the place you’re at isn’t working out, it’s not too hard to pop over to another.
Is there anything in particular you’re looking for, beyond a good poker room? And how do you define a good poker room? (That way once someone who has more experience gambling down there than I will have something to work with.)
Personally, just in terms of food, I think the buffet at the Horseshoe is the best, although Sam’s Town relatively recently revamped theirs and it is now running a close second. (The Sam’s Town buffet has Corky’s BBQ if you are in to that sort of thing.) On the flip side, I was not impressed with the buffets at either Hollywood or Resorts. The former was pretty dinky, while the latter wasn’t anything to write home about and the traffic flow was terrible.
