Best pop song called "Photograph"

It’s been awhile since I ran a music poll, and I’m planning on starting a new big retrospective series in a few weeks, but I just wanted to throw up this one-off in the meantime. It occurred to me the other day that there are quite a few songs called “Photograph”, to the point that I couldn’t think of another name that was shared by so many different compositions - six, according to Wikipedia.

Here are those six songs, listed chronologically. Which one’s your favorite?

It’s a toss up for me. I love DL’s version, but I’m a sucker for sad songs. So Ringo it is.

(idea for your next poll: which version of “Without You” is best. According to Wiki, I think there are 54 songs with that title.) (#1: Harry Nilsson)

Good catch, but I don’t think I’ve heard about 51 or so of those and that’s an awful lot of effort to go through to decide which one is best.

Nickleback!!!

J/k. Def Leppard.

I agree. I knew there were several songs with that name, but I didn’t realize there were THAT many.

Astrud Gilberto.

Wasn’t listed on Wikipedia. Also, is in a different language, so it doesn’t count.

Am I only the only one who likes Verve Pipe’s version or just the only person who’s heard it?

DL’s would come in second and I’m not sure how to rank the others except of course Nickleback comes in dead last, if for no other reason than that stupid line “and what the hell is on Joey’s head?”

Didn’t Kid Rock and Sheryl Crow have a duet by that title also? That song always tugged at my heartstrings.

I vote for Ringo, with DL fairly far behind, but still WAY ahead of dead-ass last place Nickelback. I don’t know the others.

That one was called “Picture”, alas, so ineligible for the poll. I also disqualified a few songs called “Photographs” (plural).

I don’t know any except for Ringo. And it’s a good Ringo. I’m absolutely positive I’m not missing anything.

Why no listing for the version performed by Natalie Merchant and Michael Stipe?

No, and other than me possibly. I don’t think it was a big hit - I heard it for the first time at a concert they played at with Tonic and Guster.

I predict that “Photograph” will win this contest.

The only one I know is Ringo’s. I haven’t knowingly purchased any contemporary pop/rock since The Replacements broke up. (the 1991 breakup.)

However, the Ringo one is about as good as post-Beatles Ringo got.

“Ringo”, by Duran Duran.

Ringo’s version, easily.

Another vote for Ringo. George co-wrote this with Ringo, and it’s credited to both of them.

Here’s a great live version from the “Concert for George” after his death. Dhani is on stage, along with Eric Clapton and Jeff Lynn. And, I know it’s not, but it looks like Craig T. Nelson on the sax at about 2:00 - 2:20.

It’s about as good as any song from the 90’s could be. That decade was so bad for music that even Def Leppard started to suck.
