Best Republican To Be President?

Who do you think is the Republican who will do the best as President of the United States?

Colin Powell. Never going to happen, though.

He’s 79 though.

73 - just one year older than John McCain, who would presumably be gearing up for his reelection campaign had he won in '08. You’ve got Joe Arpaio on the list, who’s 78, and might be in prison by the time we get to the election.

Your list is pretty heavy on the crazies. Who is Fred Krugger?

The only Republican to actually have officially announced his candidacy. And I’m using Wiki’s list of potential 2012 candidates.

That’s Fred Karger.

None of the above.

Powell is one year younger, you mean. McCain is 74.

Yeah, I could vote for Colin Powell. He’s got great crossover appeal to Democrats, and the only thing I’d worry about a little would be his Supreme Court nominations. He’s got a great no-bullshit vibe going in interviews, though I have to wonder if that would disappear out of necessity during campaigns. I can’t imagine the kinds of crazy upsets that it would take to get him to win the Republican primaries.

I voted for Gary Johnson, based solely on his performance as Governor. But if he has to court the right wing nutjobs in order to get elected, I’ll withdraw my vote in this poll.

Did the people who picked Palin mean “the best Republican to be president” as the poll asks, or “the best republican to run for president (to assure Obama’s reelection)”?

Olympia Snowe.

I actually have evidence that he carries a small vial of bullshit around with him at all times.

I voted for her for the latter.

Powell. Or Giuliani. Or Petraeus. Or one of the Rutan brothers. Or clone-Roosevelt (Teddy).

I figured, but that’s not what the OP was asking.

Bloomberg, wearing his Republican hat. The problem with the list is that the ones I recognize have too much crazy for me to ever get down into the substantive policy areas where I might very well agree with them. Crazy’s what sells right now.

I voted for Chris Christie, even though his name was spelled wrong. I think he’s as good an orator as Obama, and is very adept at presenting a conservative viewpoint in a way that is non-defensive and persuasive, meaning he is very confident that what he is advocating is best for everybody, especially the little guy. Here’s one example.

There are many more on the web.

The most important job of the President is to be the CEO of America. No one’s a better CEO on that list than Mitt Romney. And it ain’t like he’s inexperienced in the executive branch.

I would totally hate-fuck Mitt Romney. Just sayin’.
