Huckabee, Palin, Trump...

I just saw a news cast which listed Mike Huckabee, Sarah Palin, and Donald Trump as front runners in the selection of republican party 2012 presidential candidates.

I might really end up missing Obama…

I know I said it in 2008, but I’ll say it again for 2012. If Palin gets within spitting distance of the Presidency, I’ll move.

I don’t know where, maybe antarctica – there are no fucking insane people living there at least.

While that survey does reveal the idiocy of the current Republican Party, I can guarantee you none of those names will win the nomination, let alone even be in the race.

I’d guess it’s all name recognition at this point. I’d also guess that it’s 50-50 that Trump’s not even going to run, he is just a huge attention hog.

He’s not the kind of guy who wants to spend a ton of his own money.

As for who it will be? Good question: at this point in the cycle, nobody had ever heard of Clinton, McCain was way down in the weeds too. Pawlenty?

He is running–although we weren’t supposed to know that yet.

In another thread someone predicted he would withdraw before the financial disclosure stage, and I tend to agree.

It you’re going to get all hot and bothered by polls at this stage, then you don’t know much about US politics. Not to mention that I don’t think that poll is correct. Romney has led in the polls that I’ve seen.

If I had to put money down today I’d put it on Romney.
But I’m not putting money down at all.

McCain was in second place through most of the lead up to the 2008 primary. So not so much in the weeds.

In general, I can’t think of any cases where a candidate “came out of the blue” to win the nomination. Clinton is probably closest, but he was actually favored to win before the Gennifer Flowers thing broke.

True, that. The fucking insane people in Antarctica are there on research projects, not as permanent residents.

The only redeeming thing a Palin presidency would bring would be to finally get the tiresome “I’d leave the country” crowd to actually leave. Except most probably wouldn’t.

Wilkie in 1940. Going into the convention, the money was on Taft, Vanderberg, or Dewie. Also, Goldwater didn’t really emerge as a major candidate until January of 1964.

Tell me about it. I’m still waiting for all the “…and if Obama gets elected…” nitwits who made that same claim to hit the road.

Don’t worry. They’ll be out in droves again in 2012.

I heard that about Trump, but I was talking about Pawlenty, who accidentally announced he was running for President to a reporter, and than his people took it back saying there would be an official announcement later. It was on The Daily Show.

IOW, I was responding to the last question in the post, not the general topic.

Trump was quoted on MSNBC this AM as saying he thought he had great relationship with “the Blacks.” At least he didn’t say “those Blacks”…

Maybe not. Did all the millions of liberals who were going to leave if Bush II got re-elected ever come back, or are they still trickling in? If the later, they might get back just in time to have to leave again, if Palin becomes Goddess Queen of America!

:stuck_out_tongue:

(I don’t know why anyone would get hot and bothered by any of this group…none of them have a chance to win the nomination, let alone become president. Seems like wasted angst to me.)

Just like all those people who threatened to move to Canada if GWB was reelected?

Hey! I DID move to Canada!

Yeah, I know I’ve been in Texas the whole time, but that’s only 'cause all my stuff’s still there.

I don’t believe Trump or Palin will run. Trump is making presidential mutterings so that he can get on TV to pimp his Apprentice show, since nobody would ever invite him on just to talk about that.

I’ve always maintained that Palin will not run: there’s no money in it and she would be subjected to relentless mockery and hate. Her approval ratings are presently at the 25% level, and that doesn’t sell books or personal appearances except to the fringe lunatics.

Bachmann is a dangerous nutjob, but crazies have become the leaders of countries in the past. I doubt that she’ll make it out of the primary unless the Tea Party decides to have its very own presidential candidate, which could fracture the Republican Party, not necessarily a Bad Thing.
