Gotta go with Presto. I always throw it on when I need a lift. Energy is contagious!
I’ll give you a hint: ^
Yes, Moving Pictures is a great album. But I still cling to hope that Presto is one of the best! I love to listen to it.
Permanent Waves
Hemispheres
Moving Pictures
I’m glad to hear you say that! It’s probably my favorite as well. I’m sure it’s not a popular choice, but there’s something very evocative about it, and it’s a very well-formed album; usually I have no interest in skipping any tracks.
Hemispheres, because of The Trees and La Villa Strangiato.
Rush, because of Working Man.
Grace Under Pressure or Vapor Trails, depending on my mood.
Another for Moving Pictures.
- Permanent Waves
- 2112
- Moving Pictures
- Hemispheres
- Counterparts
Permanent Waves has always been my favorite. The next three change based on my mood. And my surprise submission is Counterparts.
Presto is near the top too. I really like the album’s cohesion.
I like the writing on Vapor Trails a lot, but get bothered by the mix/mastering. Rush released a pair of Vapor Trails tracks that are remixed and I think they are improved greatly.
Not a huge Rush listener these days, but I think Power Windows and Hold Your Fire are equally great (I like or love the first 8 songs on HYF, and I don’t actually dislike anything on Power Windows). Moving Pictures is pretty good too, and I also quite like Roll the Bones and Signals.
1- Hemispheres
2- Counterparts
3- Signals
4- Moving Pictures
Permanent Waves
Hold Your Fire and Counterparts are the two best. The rest for me only have a couple or few songs I like on the album.
I really really like Power Windows (despite a couple mediocre songs).
MP is probably the easy answer.
But my all-time favorite album is A Farewell To kings, with Hemispheres a close second and 2112 right up there.
My “point of entry” Rush album was A Farewell To Kings and for many bands the album that brought me in remains my favorite forever. It is a really good album and deserves a mention, but my all-time faves are:
- Moving Pictures
- Signals
- A Farewell to Kings
- Permanent Waves
- 2112
I couldn’t really say because I love so many, but Permanent Waves is the one, if I had to give up all but one, that I’d keep. But I’d be so very sad.
And this is why I also have The Spirit of Radio: Rush Greatest Hits '74-87. All my favorites in one handy dandy CD.
2112, I didn’t even have to think about it.
Permanent Waves, but I’m listening to Presto right now.
Wow! I’m surprised at some of the choices here! I have to say that I haven’t particularly loved much after Power Windows.
I gotta go with Permanent Waves as well, with Moving Pictures is a close second.
I’m more old school though, so I love Fly by Night, and of course Caress of Steel, their most underrated album.
I haven’t heard many in full, but Moving Pictures gets my pick as an all around solid album. It’s too bad they opened the second side with a song apparently designed to take up as much time as they could get out of one idea. 2112 is the only other album of theirs that I really like, and Tears is just completely out of place and falls flat for me. Maybe if I get Permanent Waves one of these days it would come out on top.
