Best Shows on Television: Your picks.

Married with Children (still)
Farscape
The Shield
The Sopranos
Good Eats

And that’s about all the TV I watch regularly.

In order of greatness:

  1. Farscape- greatest show in the history of television. The series finale is next week, Friday at 8:00! Watch it to see why it was so great!

  2. Buffy- fun and intelligent show.

  3. Angel- dark and intelligent show.

  4. Simpsons Reruns- even though it has gone down hill over the past 6 years, the first 8 or so are great.

  5. 24/Alias- Fun, but brainless shows.

Currently running:

24
The Shield
CSI
Miracles
John Doe
The Dead Zone

I’m glad to see so many mentions of Scrubs. It’s the best thing when you need to be cheered up. An episode a day keeps the doctor away. Metaphorically speaking, of course.

Plus, I have to second, third and fourth Buffy. What will we do once it’s cancelled? What will we discuss? sniff
Will the occasional Angel help? I don’t think so…

I also enjoy Gilmore Girls. A little fun, a little drama, great cast.

Reruns:

Hogan’s Heroes
Wild Wild West
Lost in Space
Star Trek
Mission Impossible

New Stuff:

Whatever looks good on Discovery, History Channel, TLC, PBS and every once in awhile I sneak a peek at garbage TV like Joe Millionaire. I almost gagged but I did watch some of it.

I try to avoid making TV a priority. If it’s a choice 'tween hanging out with real people and watching TV, I always pick real life. Also, (since I live alone), watching TV is a solitary thing. I’d never go home to someone and watch TV or have someone over, turning on the idiot box (apart from major sports events).

Most things on TV suck. And I’d rather watch a rerun of any of these shows, than seeing most of the newer things:

Early Friends, Spin City, Frasier. The Wonder years, Moonlightning, early X-files, TNG, Seinfeld (which started going down, the moment his star end end stand-up act was no longer included) and of course Simpsons.

Of shows currently running here (or now in the US), I’ll watch:
Angel
Buffy
Oz,
C.S.I. (both shows)
Sopranos
West Wing
Six Feet Under
(I got hooked early on 24, but dropped it).

However, I never have the TV on, if not actively watching. If I want to watch a show, I turn it on, and when show is done, I turn it off. One hour of television or 50 pages in a book. I’ll pick the book anytime.

I have enjoyed Scrubs from the beginning. I still enjoy That 70s Show. Still watch Friends, but it is showing its age. After that, I don’t really enjoy TV anymore

Clone High (which is my new favorite show…too bad they are only playing 11 episodes)

The Simpsons

Fear Factor

Survivor

King of the Hill

Shows I make an effort to watch weekly:
Alias
Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Angel
Boomtown
The Simpsons
Southpark
Law & Order: Special Victims Unit
The Amazing Race

Shows I’ll watch if I have nothing else to do, but no big deal if I miss them:
ER
Friends
The West Wing
Law & Order (the original)
NYPD Blue
Survivor

A show I really like but I haven’t seen in ages because I don’t know when it’s on:
Gilmore Girls

American Dreams. Great cast, great writing, great music.

Drama:
Boomtown - if you’re not watching this, you should be!
Law & Order Criminal Intent
American Dreams
Six Feet Under
Law & Order / Law & Order SVU (tied)
ER (it’s picked back up this season)

Comedy:
Scrubs - consistently funny
Monk - brilliantly witty
The Simpsons - 13 years, still strong
Ed - has grown on me because it’s tensely cute

Reality:
Nothing
Absolutely
Not a
Single One
Of Them

Late Night:
Conan
Letterman
So Graham Norton - (on BBC America and worth the cable fees by itself)
SNL - it’s recovering

Specialty:
Trading Spaces
Iron Chef
While You Were Out
What Not to Wear - BBC America version only
Nigella Bites

Simpsons, though it’s faltering.
CSI
Six Feet Under
Wish I got the Food Net - Iron Chef rules, though I liked it better subtitled.
Don’t get Comedy Central anymore, either. Sigh.

hrh

WB
Angel

FOX
Firefly ::sigh::
Simpsons (before season 11)
Stargate SG-1 (before season 5)

Cartoon Network
Futurama
Samurai Jack

Comedy Central
South Park

I work nights so I only get the opportunity to watch primetime television twice a week. Therefore my list will be short:

ALIAS (Sunday @ 9)
Miracles (Monday @ 10)

And though I don’t get to watch it live I would also recommend Farscape. A truly good show whose reach exceeded it’s grasp, the reason it was so good and the reason it couldn’t get new viewers.

Friends
Scrubs
Simpsons
Malcolm in the Middle

Reruns:
All of the above hold up well rerun wise
Roseanne
Hmm… I just realized that’s all I watch really.

Doh! Forgot Will and Grace!
