JF was at the SECOND All-Star reunion (AKA- Let’s Give Rupert a Million) where he won “best villian.”
Any reason why Brian wasn’t included in All-Stars? I didn’t see his season.
(It seemed like there were a few male contestants who got the snub and a few female spots that made you realize a majority of the great characters have been men.)
Brian says that he was offered a spot on the All-Stars series but turned it down because he believed that past winners would be targeted (which did in fact happen) and have no chance of winning. However, the producers have denied that Brian was invivted and say that the only people that were asked and turned them down were Colleen Haskell and Elisabeth Hasselback.
During an aftershow party, Jonnie basically got drunk, hit on the women, told Jeff’s brother he was going to get him thrown out of the party and then acted like an ahole to the kids. The part that got Jeff mad was him treating the kids badly. He said he doesn’t want Survivor to have that image and told the producers “it’s him or me”. You can guess who they chose. Jeff told all this on the Kid Kraddick(sp) radio show one morning. He then went on to randomly bash Jonnie a couple times to the point where one person asked, “You really hate that guy, huh?” and he said yes.
Rupert’s the most overrated player in Survivor history. With that said, that $1 million couldn’t have been put to a better use. He’s on the cover of Indy Child this week (month?) if you haven’t seen it yet, indygrrl.
I’ll throw in my vote to Brian, just edging out Rob C. Brian wins out because he had a plan for the end game, including setting up the final challenge so he was virtually guaranteed of getting to the F2. Rob C. blew that part of the game big time, leaving him completely helpless as Jenna stomped him in the challenge and tossed him overboard.
Rich gets extra credit for inventing the paradigm, and even more points for setting up the end game just right, but that’s a lot easier to do when the competition doesn’t even realize how the game is played.
There was much speculation about why Brian was not included in All-Stars, with no clear answer. However, neither party has had much enthusiasm for the other since Brian’s win in Thailand.
My guess would be that he didn’t fill a demographic. While it’s a competition, the real purpose of the show is entertainment. So the show tries to go for a balance of interesting characters rather than an actual roster of those who they think are the best competitors. So they probably asked around to see who was interested in the possibility of a return (which may be what Brian was talking about when he says he was asked). Then after they had a list of the possibles, they put together a mix of players they thought viewers would want to see. Brian wasn’t on this list so the producers can say he was not invited to be on the show.
I remember reading an EW article (with Rich, Colby and Jenna M on the cover) about the All-Star version. The producers tested the interest of every single participant ever to play. Everyone but those mentioned above expressed interest (Colleen and Elisabeth).
Then the producers figured out who they wanted and extended official “invitations.”
