All-Star Survivor talk here: This is going to be very interesting.

All-Star Survivor starts right after the super-bowl. Though not a voracious fan, I like to watch the group dynamic. I like to see who the shrewd, cunning, smart, and gutsy players are. They usually start coming out after 2 to 3 people are voted off.
However, with this all star survivor, all the best players will be pitted against each other. This will be fun to see. For a list of cast members see here. My personal opinion on the cast:

I like Rupert. I just do, he’s got that no quit attitude and a way about him that I think will at least send him to the jury, if not all the way.

Richard: The first sole survivor, he’s got the game down pat. He’s going to be tough to beat.
Ethan - the nice guy who pull his weight, yet remains ever vigilant and cunning…another tough person to beat.
For the women: I think Alicia and Susan are going to be tough to beat. I don’t think Jerry will make it very far…she burned waaay too many bridges…I’d say she’s off close to the begining, if not first off.

So, what are your predictions? Who do you think will make it far and why?

I think the most dangerous players are going to be voted off first. I think we can expect Richard and Rupert to be among the first off the island. Annoying people like Susan and Jeri can be expected to go far, since they are perceived to be an easy enemy in the final two voting. Expect the most unassuming members who are able to get themselves into an alliance to be in the final three.

I wouldn’t call them the best of the best. After all, Jenna “My mamma died so give me the million” Marasco is among the contestants. And Shii “Whaddya mean it’s not the merge?!” Ann is here, too.

I have to admit, though, that with this crew it seems unlikely that Jenna can pull the “poor, poor me!” win out of her lazy ass again.

Ahh but I do not think this strategy will work this time around. Everyone knows it! In addition there are several contestants that were the sole survivor…I think this survivor is going to be slightly more interesting, even if it is simple because they have all played it before!

I can’t wait to see this. And while I adore Rupert, I wouldn’t be surprised to see him get voted off early. Because everyone adores the man, and he’s a big threat.

I’m hoping to see the previous winners voted off early, why give them more money! But, Richard practically invented scheming, and he may go far.

No matter what, it should be very interesting. And I’m so glad Jon didn’t get to be part of it!

I think the game has changed so much since Season One that the first couple of winners will be at a slight disadvantage – the game they played to win won’t necessarily work now.

OTOH, Richard Hatch is a smart SOB, so I think he may do very well indeed.

I’m quite excited. I barely watched the first season, and ignored Outback and Africa, but I’ve been hooked since #4.

I would love to see Rupert stay in the game longer this time.

Must post more later, when I’m not at work!

Looking forward to the all-star Survivor here.

I am hoping that Rupert is the first one voted off! Love the way the big baby acts when things don’t go his way. I don’t think Jeri will stand for his crap.

I’m sure when they do a Survivor “where are they now series” in ten years, we’ll find Rupert at some small town Indiana Wal-mart working as a greeter still trying to desperately cling to his faded fame.

Also hoping that one of the non-winners wins this time…say like the yummy Colby!

Everyone knows it? I can’t think of too many incidences, if any at all, when a strong player was voted off as a threat before the merge.

The only way Rupert will win is if they bring back voted-off members a la this previous season.

Rupert is toast. He thinks survivor is about catching fish and being the main man. He’s wrong.

He’ll never be allowed get to the final. It would be pure 100% idiocy to do so. He’ll make the jury and be disapointed again IMO.

I’m hoping Rupert has learned a lot…I just think he’s a nice guy. The more I think about it, Ethan has a way of staying under the radar and yet pulling a monstrous amount of weight. He may be someone to reckon with.

IIRC, this survivor will have three groups to start with…not two…so the dynamic will be somewhat different. I agree with you munch, I can not remember anyone being voted off as a strong threat before the merge.

As much as I love Rupert, I also think he’ll be one of the first ones to go.
Tina is another one that tended to fly under the radar too and seems to be a pretty nice person, so I’m curious to see how far she’ll go this time around.

This season raises a pretty interesting question that I saw on TWoP–since the Allstar Season started in October while the last season was still airing, does that mean all the players got to watch the last season ahead of time? It doesn’t seem fair if they didn’t, since they were able to watch the rest of the previous seasons. If they didn’t, looks like that might give Rupert a huge advantage. Or disadvantage, depending on how you look at it.

If you sort of like watching the show, you should get in a pool. Everyone puts in some cash and picks a few players. The person with the last player standing wins the kitty. It makes the show a lot more interesting.

If I had first pick, I’d take Ethan with Colby a close second. You need someone who is strong enough to win but also smart enough to lay low when the situation calls for it.

Because of season loyalty (players from the same season sticking together) , I think the tribe assignments will be huge. Has anyone found the tribe assignments yet?

I’m also looking forward to some good cat fights. There’s a good mix of type a women and Barbie dolls.

Since everyone seems to win by flying under the radar, I wonder how many of them will come back much more subdued this time around. It will be interesting to see who dares take on a leadership role as it has always proven to be a sure way to get voted off soon after the merge. I am really looking forward to this season to see who has changed their strategy and who the survivors make alliances with - will they seek out winners from past seasons or hook up with people from their own seasons?

I agree that Richard will have to change his strategy, but he’s smart enough to know that, I think. The first season was a whole different game than later seasons - wasn’t Richard the first one to come up with the whole ‘alliance’ concept that everyone else followed? IIRC, the first season there were many more people floating around with no real strategy or alliances, just voting off whomever they were sick of at the time.

Yeah, I help run a pool at my office and it’s a blast doing the weekly episode summaries. In our pool, we actually assign the survivors randomly, though, so some people win the lottery and others get screwed. What we do is have 15 people with a survivor each and then one that is a “wild card” - if they win, everyone gets their money back. Fun stuff. This season, I drew Jerri … hope they think she’s an easy enemy!

Ethan is definitely my favorite going in. Rupert does have the advantage of not being known (this was filmed prior to the last survivor airing). Maybe he will have learned from his mistakes.

Same for Colby. Bet he doesn’t let a coat-tail riding nice guy fool him again.

Predict the first boot:

I saw “Godfather Rob” or grating and useless Shii Ann.

I know last week’s TV Guide had the tribes all laid out. You can also try the CBS website, I’m sure they have the list up by now.

Richard, perhaps, but Rupert will likely be around a little while. A couple things lead me to think this:

Rupert is basically an unknown to the bulk of the people on this island. There’s no reason to think he’ll be a threat, because filming for ASS started well before Season 7 was completely aired.

I agree that Richard will be gone quickly, certainly before the merge. Everyone knows that he’s a big threat; and furthermore, everyone will want to say “I lasted longer than Richard Hatch did!”

I think all the previous winners will have a strike against them – who wants to give them another million dollars?

By the way, the latest People magazine has a picture and listing of each of the three tribes. I only looked at it briefly, but it looks like they avoided putting anyone from the same series together in the same tribe as much as possible. So, if I remember correctly, Colby, Tina, and Jerri are split up (for example). Now that I think about it, though, what’s-her-name from Australia is in it too, so they must have doubled up somewhere.

Rupert will remain an unknown quantity for precisely 12 minutes into the contest. He’ll certainly be thought of as a threat within 7 hours, let alone 7 days.
