Best Time of year for Savannah and Charleston Honeymoon

I’m getting married in October, but we will not be honetmooning until later. We want to go to Savannah and Charleston.

She’s a teacher, so we should probably go in February or April to correspond to her schedule breaks. Which would be better, how much better would it be, and why? Febuary will probably be colder and less green, but being from California, I don’t know what winter in that area would be like.

Any travel tips for that area would also be appreciated. We enjoy history, walking, and taking it easy (as opposed to skiing and stuff like that).

I hear some place called Hilton Head is nice.

Thanks!

Hilton Head is nice, but pricey.

I live in Savannah so I can tell you that April is better for the weather. If you like walking and history, both places are good. Be sure to check out the historic downtown area and River Street.

Actually, I think either time would be nice, as far as Charleston goes (the place I am familiar with) but April is likely to be spectacular. If you don’t mind waiting, wait until it’s really spring. Things will be in bloom (and how!).

I visited both Savannah and Charleston in April of 2004, and they were really beautiful, with wonderful food and lots of architecture and history. Lots of walking in Charleston, though. I came back with tremendous blisters, so pack comfortable shoes!

Two words:

A Pril

It’s not quite uncomfortably hot yet, and the flowers (Oh My GOD the honeysuckle) are going totally apeshit. Late March or April are definitely the most enjoyable IMO. And I HATE the muggy, buggy, boglands.

I don’t know if cost is a serious consideration or not, but we went to Savannah just before the St. Patrick’s Day insanity began, and we got really nice prices while looking for hotels. After chatting with the hotel staff, we were told that the prices hike quite a bit about the 15th of March and stay up thereafter.

Whenever you go, enjoy yourself! We went to Savannah not having any idea what to expect, and fell in love immediately. We will be returning. Soon.
