Best tools to relearn/finish learning Spanish?

Before taking Spanish in high school, I listened to quite a bit of Spanish music- so I found my two years of Spanish instruction quite easy.

Now, three years later, I have a problem. I can completely understand other people speaking spanish: I can watch movies, TV shows, music, be spoken to, eaves drop (I know, just an example  ), etc. This is all wonderful.

My issue is that I can never think of what to say in reply to whoever is speaking to me. This is quite problamatic, as everyone thinks, “Ah! Diosa! She speaks Spanish. She can translate for me!”.

I’d like to finish learning Spanish so I can actually SPEAK*. I def. need a comprehensive vocab and verb review. I have a computer program, but the games are silly and nothing really sticks. I’ll probably be best off with a book (pref. a textbook style book).

So, I ask: what has worked for you? Any particular books, programs, etc?

*I can do pretty basic senten., but nothing that resembles normal speaking :wally

To learn to speak Spanish well, you are going to have to speak Spanish with someone who is fluent over a fairly long time period. You could try to make friends with someone who has Spanish a first language. You could also take a class geared to that sort of thing. Around here, there are adult continuing ed classes that offer that sort of immersion in class and only cost a small amount.

I have plenty of friends who speak to me in Spanish (especially their parents), but my replies are usually some mangled version of Spanglish.

Classes are out due to time constraints with school (and I can’t take it at school because they don’t offer anything below Spanish 3…I need a Spanish 2 review).

I could plop down with a nice book and drill myself. That would probably be my best bet.

A one-way ticket to Mexico City.

There would be an unlimited supply of nachos, burritos, margaritas, and hot, Mexican men.

Who wants to go on an…umm…educational? Field trip?
