Best toppings for baked potatoes

Part of our supper tomorrow night is going to be a baked potato bar. Here are the toppings I’ve come up with so far:

Sour cream, chives, shredded cheese, bacon, salsa, some interesting dips from the deli counter.

These all sound boring and I’m also looking for some low cal toppings. What can I add or remove that will make people go, “Huh, I never would’ve thought of that, but it’s really good!”

Chopped ham.

Butter.

Parmesan cheese.

Spinach dip.

Sorry, but IMO, some things just don’t taste as good without fat.

BBQ sauce

Broccoli in cheese sauce (low-fat is NOT an option!)

Bacon Salt

Baconnaise

Chili is a common topping around here.

Roasted garlic and olive oil.

For low-cal, try offering some chopped herbs like basil, dill, parsley, fennel…

Especially dill.

Jalapeno slices
Vegetable cream cheese
Guacamole

I really like butter, sour cream and Worcestershire sauce on my baked potatos, but your guests may look at you funny for it.

Chopped green scallions (the green part only)

Butter with… whatever you like. For me? a bit of chopped cilantro. Garlic butter would be popular, of course.

Sauteed mushrooms
Broccoli (only if you have cheese sauce too)
Chili
Black olives

I like cottage cheese.

I like plain yogurt instead of sour cream. Nice zing.

I thought I was the only one who did this.

Nah, if you have a baked potato with a steak dinner around A-1 sauce it’s enevitable that you’ll discover that the taste goes nicely on potato too.

Mmmm. Yup, I cook the potato, open and spread it out with a fork, then sprinkle some A1 sauce over it. Then I usually add some cooked or jarred mushrooms, sometimes some beef or ham or chicken, occasionally some diced scallions and/or tomatoes, and then top it off with cheddar jack cheese. Usually at this point I pop it back in the microwave to get it really nice and melty, then I top with some sour cream.

Potatoes are a full meal in my house. I love potatoes.

Ours too. I like to make an on the fly shepards pie from time to time with seasoned ground beef and peas and carrots stuck in a partially hollowed out baked potato. I call them shepards Hot Pockets. :smiley:
