I was looking for somewhere cheap (just paid off my years of student debt) to take a recent vacation for one week and ended up going to Acapulco, which was nice although a bid faded around the edges. But no Goa. (In this thread I’m more interested in places fairly close to Canada or the US)
Most of the cheap week holidays available from Canada go to Mexico, Cuba and Costa Rica; occasionally trips to Hawaii, Venezuela, St. Martin, Barbados, Jamaica and other Caribbean islands are thrown in there too. Which place did you enjoy the most? Why? Who were you travelling with and what were you looking for?
canada is great. i took a weekend vacation to ottawa in april, i’d been to toronto countless times when i was younger but never driven myself. ottawa is very nice, we stayed in kanata (suburb) and saw DMB at the corel centre. it was very clean, and very cold. the people up there were real nice. niagra falls is nice if you’re on a budget. imho there is no “best” vacation spot because there are so many beautiful and unique places in the world. i’m heading to new zealand as soon as i can afford it
I love Europe, and some of my round trip air tickets to Europe were cheaper than some within the U.S. I like the very old buildings in Europe as well as the beautiful outdoors of places like Switzerland, and walk around everywhere. I know you are interested in places close to Canada or the U.S., but you might look into visiting different parts of Europe. Eurotrip.com has a good discussion board. A lot of my travels are alone, but I have also traveled with friend(s).
I too love Europe, especially the Scandanavian countries – for their spirted citizens and the amazing cleanliness. Norway was perhaps the most beautiful of these.
In the U.S., I love Savannah, Georgia and Camden, Maine.
Been all over the US and Canada. Favorite states, in order:
Hawaii
Arizona
California
Wisconsin (really - tons of cool, off-beat stuff!)
South Dakota (ditto)
In Canada, Alberta was our favorite province, and Prince Edward Island was fun to spend a day in.
Travelling with? Always with my wife and kids (however many we had at the time). Looking to see and do new and unique things. It’s a fun world out there…maybe one of these days we’ll even expand our horizons beyond North America.
Anguilla (right across from St. Martin). Beautiful, hasn’t been touristed out yet (and likely never will be, there isnt’ anything there except the beaches and there isnt’ enough land or water to support much of a tourist industry). I was loving life when I went - me and my SO on a talcum powder white sand beach, with blue/green water and not another soul in sight all day.
