Best washer/dryer for ~$1000 each.

I’m looking for front load, energy efficient and reliable. I don’t need every possible bell and whistle but want something nice. I was looking at the Whirlpool 9200 series but I saw some poor reviews for those so now I’m back to square one.

Thanks…

I love my Staber washer a lot. My dryer’s a Kenmore, formerly part of a set, but the Kenmore front loaders from a few years ago have a major design flaw so beware. I don’t know whether they’ve fixed that.

Maytag Epic pair—does more than the Whirlpool 9200’s, and costs less.

$1k each? $2k for the set?

Wowza. I bought a Roper washer & dryer back in 2001 for $600 total, brand new. Since then, I’ve moved them twice, and they still work as advertised. Not fancy, but fancy washer/dryer settings would just confuse me anyway.

I just bought this LG set:

Washer, Dryer

and I love them quite deeply. The total price was about $2,000 I think - $899 for the dryer and $1,199 for the washer if I remember right.

They’re fantastic - they do a beautiful job with clothes - they get the laundry super clean and have even removed some old, I thought unremovable, stains.

Two thumbs up LG!

ETA - I wanted to mention that they’re stackable - I currently have my set stacked - it’s great if you don’t have a huge amount of space (like me) or if you have space but want to use it for something else.

I bought a set of LG Tromm not quite two years ago. I love them! They’re 4.0 cubic feet capacity, which is large enough for me to wash my horse blankets. They do a wonderful job, use much less water than my old Maytags and I haven’t had a problem with them yet. And they get Very Heavy Usage. They were about 1200.00 each; and I bought two pedastels at about $250.00 each.

I just checked Sears’ website; and they have 3.6 capacity versions for $749.00, the 4.0 is now going for $899.00 (in white, colors run more).

I highly recommend them.

I got the Samsung HE front loading washer and dryer back in May when we moved into out new house. I have been really happy with them so far.

washer & dryer

I got mine in white, which cost less than the color models, they were also on sale when I bought mine. I also got the pedestal storage stands for each, so the total came to about $2500 including sales tax and delivery.

You might want to ask over at Garden Web. They’re a nice group over there and more focused on home appliances, etc.

Another thrilled owner of a pair of 4 cubic foot LG Tromm beasties. We’ve had them for somewhere between two and three years, and they can swallow huge piles of laundry. Perhaps “LG” means “Laundry Gobbler?”

About the only thing I’d change if I could go back in time is to not spend the extra cost for the steam cycle feature. I think we’ve used that feature twice, although I think the sanitize cycle uses steam as well, and we do use that cycle pretty often with towels and bedding.

As **bink **mentioned, the Sears Kenmore machines made by Frigidaire have had some design issues. We replaced a pair of Kenmore machines with the LG because we wanted the larger capacity and because we were having some irritations with the things. The washer was starting to show early signs of bearing failure, and the dryer was simply noisy.

In comparison, the LG machines are quiet enough that the remote monitor can be a worthy purchase as about the loudest noise the thing makes is “Bing-Bing, Bing-Bing, Bing-Bing, Tock Tock” as the cycle ends and the door unlocks.

+1

My wife and I bought the same set last year. We picked up the previous year’s model so we got the washer/dryer/and two pedestals for just over $1500.

We love em.

My thoughts exactly!

We bought an LG Tromm or something like that from a scratch and dent sale and paid $275 (200+delivery). So, if there’s a scratch and dent type place around your area it’s definitely worth looking into and half the time I can’t tell what’s wrong with it. (Just the washer, but the dryer would have been a comparable price)

Yes. That’s upper mid-range, by the way. There are models for more than twice that much out there but I don’t need the steam cycle that was mentioned earlier or a totally ridiculous number of options. I’m tired of my energy hogging 1980’s era clunkers.

Thanks for the replies so far. I have some research to do now.

i have the frigidaire infinity he w/d. i got them both last year for about 1500 total. love them! i’ve been told that there is some difficulty getting repair parts with the lg, so decided against them. of course, if nothing goes wrong with them, it really doesn’t matter. i do recommend getting the pedestals for the w/d.

Unless you have to have a matched set, skip the drier that goes with the front load washer.

Ask around, and the salesperson should be able to point you to almost the exact same drier that is part of a set with a top load, for a lot less month. The only difference will probably be that one will have controls on the front and the other on the top. If you’re never going to stack them, that doesn’t matter at all.

We saved ourselves maybe $300 doing that this spring.
