You got it.
Cool
Nitpick: 1. The Bavarian colours are white-blue, not blue. (Nothing labels you a foreigner faster than messing up our heavenly colours!)
- The pattern is a Rhombus/Lozenge (Raute), not a checkerboard. If somebody sells you white-blue checkerboard-pattern stuff, they are trying to rip you off.
Kindle has been delivered. Did it arrive in working conditions? The world may never know, unless obfusciatrist tells us.
Well, given the Munich airport angle, I can just picture, obfu finding his e-books all deleted.
“They’re all gone!”
What… too soon?
It never occurred to me to check back on this thread after Caractacus Pott and I exchanged information.
I do have the Kindle and it is fully operational and unharmed.
I’d like to publicly thank Caractacus Pott for being so generous with his time and helping me keep my streak alive.
You see, this is the third country (previously France, and USx2) in which I’ve managed to missplace it and so far I haven’t yet successfully lost it.
I’d also like to thank the Lufthansa pilot who text messaged me to tell me the crew had found it (I “named” my Kindle “If found, call (US) xxx-xxx-xxxx” which he saw when he turned it on). If he hadn’t done that I’m thinking the airport Cabin Found people might not have acknowledged they had it. When I talked to them the first time they said they didn’t have it, then I said “but the pilot says it was handed over to you guys” and only then did they say “oh, here it is.”
So again a big thanks. And to pay it forward, I’ll be in Tokyo next September so if anybody wants to lose something there in late August I’ll be happy to get it back.
Yay, a happy ending! Well done, Caractacus.
Good work Caractacus.
Thanks. I blush…
Caractacus, Way to go! You are truly a man to be admired.
After my son left our (brand new) camera in a Florentine hotel in 2006, I paid to use the ‘stuffbak.com’ site, and have the stickers on all the electronics I care about. It’s worked once and not worked twice. Putting the number as the name of the Kindle it a wonderful idea.
If I lost my old G1, it’d be a great excuse to upgrade. Yes, Caractacus, the Kindle seems to have exploded in popularity. I got mine (as a get-well gift from my co-workers when I was temporarily on disability) and no one knew what I had or was that interested in what I was looking at. They assumed it was a laptop/netbook/tablet (no, the iPad was NOT the first tablet, just the first commercial one). Now, everytime I pull it out to read it in a public place (restaurant, bus, etc.) I keep getting interrupted by people who want to ask me about it.
I just saw this thread on thread spotting. What a fun story! Pretty cool Caractacus
Late to the party, but for anything to do with Germany: Don’t. . .mention. . .the war.
What? Oh. Oops. I guess that’s why the flight attendants kept throwing bags of peanuts at me.
Thread spotting? I don’t understand.
The home page of the Dope has a section for threads that people think are cool, funny, or of interest. It’s on the right hand side, I think.
Thanks. I don’t go to the home page very often.
My daughter recently traveled from Sofia to Munich to DC. She forgot her Kindle in the flight to Munich, and it is now in the hands of Munich Airport. I called DHL and they said they don’t have remote pickup service anymore, and I called FEDEX to see if they would pick it up. They do, but the cost is more than the kindle itself.
I was wondering if anyone is travelling to Munich and would be willing to help? I’m willing to pay for the hassle of retrieving and bringing it back to the US…
Thanks,
Paul
Yehey I love sequels! Can we title this one “Re-kindle - The Book of Lost Tales ?”
Good luck with your search!
