Best way to watch Youtube on TV - without ads

I have a Samsung smart TV. Specifically, model UN50EH5300 if you care.

It came with an officially supported Youtube app. It connects to my personal Youtube account, where I “favorite” videos and they play on my TV.

It does all of this with zero ads playing. I also have a Roku, but it is from 2010 and is their very first model. It had an unofficial Youtube app that worked for awhile, but it stopped working a couple years ago. Also did NOT play ads. That old Roku Model #1 never got an official Youtube app. It’s more or less obsolete now.

Anyway, my current Youtube app on the Samsung TV give me this message about once a week. The app will not work after June 30.

I am up for buying a cheap device to get Youtube on my TV. I like my Smart TV, but I guess I have to accept that the Youtube app it has is being forced into obsolescence.

I don’t want to buy a device that can play Youtube and find out it plays ads every time I start a video. Is there a recommendation you all have for one that will work like my Samsung App did? Just played the videos ad-free?

Buy a Youtube Red subscription and you can get any device you want and it will be ad-free.

I use my Roku. The vast majority of ads can be skipped after 5 seconds with a button push. Once in a while you have to watch a 30 second ad you can’t skip. And sometimes, if the ad is a trailer for a movie I am interested in, I actually watch the ad.

Is it ad-free on the Chromecast? Why was the official app on my TV ad-free on my Samsung?

Probably your samsung app wasn’t set up to handle how youtube pushed the ads and so it just dropped them.

The app itself had been updated fairly frequently over the past couple years. I’m surprised it played ad-free so smoothly.
