Best Wishes for the Year of the Monkey

Year of the Monkey starts from today. Gong Xi Fa Cai! (Kung Hey Fat Choy! for the Canto speakers out there)

Made it back from the US late last night. Watched some pretty impressive fireworks as I taxi’d home in time for the remanents of the New Year’s Eve dinner with my extended family. Got out of the shower in time for the real fireworks that went big and loud from about 11:30. Sounded like GWB decided to invade Shanghai, and there are scattered strings of firecrackers going off constantly this afternoon.

Anyhoo, wishing y’all a most prosperous Year of the Monkey.

Happy Monkey Year!

I remember a long time ago reading a book called Me, the Flunkie, (which was sort of like Welcome Back, Kotter with a bit more pathos), and the first scene is set with a chalkboard with “1968: Year of the Hairy Spider Monkey” written on it. For some reason that has always stuck in my head. Does each year have an actual different breed of the particular animal associated with it, or was that just a juvenile embellishment?

No, I think that was just literary license. Each year differs by association with one of the elements (eg. wood, fire etc.).

happy new year!

i would really like an explaination on the wearing of lucky gold underwear…

I hate chinese New Year. Here it is, the year of the monkey and I’m still writing the year of the dragon on all my checks…

OK, OK, so I don’t know what last year was, I’m just kidding anyway. Wishing you all a fine year.
