Bestway to get smoke smell out of a mattress

I was recently given a great comfy mattress by my good friend (who will probably read this thread and have something smart to say  ) One problem…he’s a cigar smoker, so the bed has absorbed about 5 years worth of cigar smoke. It’s not horrid. Not like you jump on the bed and smoke billows out like dust off of an ancient tome, but it’s enough to notice when you walk in the room.

So (and I don’t know if this is the best forum for the query) is there anyway to get this mattress smelling good again? Febreez? Baking soda? Home remedies?

Liberally Febreez both sides of it and then put a mattress cover over it. Probably you’ll want one of the cloth ones rather than plastic, since bedwetting isn’t the issue here.

Steam clean it (if you find a hand-held steam cleaner, for like couches and stuff), let it dry, then spray with Febreze and let it dry. I bet that will do the trick. I inherited a car from a heavy smoker and managed to get the smell out with the steam cleaning and lots of Febreze.

Good luck!

Lots and lots of urine.

Seriously.

  1. Ozium (available in any autoparts store - use the original scent)

  2. Febreeze

  3. New mattress
