I’m sure Walt wore a baseball cap the first time he met Saul (along with dark glasses), posing as a Mr Lambert (?? If memory serves). Perhaps they will expand on that scene, although I can’t remember whether we saw the entire scene play out or not in BB.

Yeah Aaron Paul’s voice was the only thing that took me out of the scene. I wonder if in post-production they couldn’t have just raised the pitch a smidge? I’m pretty sure they did some minor visual tweaks.

I thought the last mark having cancer was a little on the nose. It was already obvious to me that he was an undeserving mark. But I guess they need the accomplice to realize the same thing without the mark having a chance to speak, and it needs to be something that the audience also knows, so…I guess their options were limited.
Were they just ripping off Saul’s “drinking buddies” or were they using access from their data to rip off third parties?
Looked like they were selling off remarkably detailed identities to a broker.
How did the dead-bolt get locked? Sure, the handle would engage when the tape was removed (don’t get me started on this weak point, we’ll just move on), but not the stand-alone deadbolt. So, somebody had to lock it after the ‘Third Man’ left. (That’s quite a dog he’s got, there!)
And why does Gene dump the booze on the ground??? What a fucking fool! Take it home and drink it!
Exactly. I wonder if Gene wants cancer guy’s identity and that’s why that one is so critical
My door is like 70 years old and locks automatically when closed. Not a deadbolt, but you still need a key to open the door.
I think it was Mahew? In any case, that’s the scene that happened just before taking Saul out into the desert. Not that they can’t go further back, but it seems more logical that further flashbacks would follow Saul’s relationship with them.
That’s an incredibly insightful prediction. The dude’s dying, so his identity seems like it would be that much more valuable to Saul.
Good catch. This parallel-building may be very much what the show-runners are going for.
I was impressed, too, though I wasn’t entirely clear on why the 3rd Man thought bringing the dog into each of those homes was his best option. Was he counting on the dog to warn him (with a low whine or something) if someone approached the front door from the outside…??
Maybe the guy having the dog is just intended as a colorful character trait. Still…
Maybe it’s like the theory from BB that Walt takes on traits from the people he has murdered (cutting of sandwich crust, placing a towel under his knees when he vomits into a toilet).
Saul killed Walt.
Mind blown.
I thought it was so he wouldn’t look as suspicious walking down the street. But if someone saw him and the dog walking up the drive of a house they knew didn’t have a dog at one in the morning, that would look suspicious. So dunno if that’s the answer.
I thought walking the dog was his cover story for walking around the area.
I’m still curious about that as well. I have to assume it’s more than just to add a bit of flair. As it stands, nothing at all would be different without the dog, at least not that I can think of.
With details like that, I always think back to the bear in the Sopranos. I figured it was just a random bear, but someone pointed out that the production crew had to find a bear they could rent, pay to rent the bear, train the bear to do what they needed it to do, have bear wranglers on the set and so on. They aren’t going to go through all that just to say the audience can say ‘look, it’s a bear’.
That was easier to find than I thought it would be:
@Little_Nemo I still think about that somewhat regularly. As someone that doesn’t pick up on symbolism unless it’s really rubbed in my face, I usually don’t catch it.
Without us knowing anything else, the dog is for cover.
And Tony was the bear.
The dog was because some dude walking around at night alone would look out of place. If you add a dog, it makes sense.
Your mind is not really blown unless there is a period after mind.
Ah yes, Mayhew, you’re right. Not sure where I got Lambert from! I suppose they could use the same cap and glasses get up on Walt but just have a new scene with him and Saul. Who knows… will be fun to find out.
Others have mentioned that the Carol Burnett character may be on to Gene. I forget, was she she also in ABQ with Jeffie or did he move to Omaha because she was already there?
Early in the episode when Gene is on the phone with Francesca and he’s asking her for updates on everyone, she says something like “Don’t they have the internet there?” Later we see Gene showing CB how to use the internet on her new computer to look up funny cat videos. I wonder if she will use her newly acquired internet skills to do some digging into Gene, especially after noticing the ruckus in the garage. Maybe she finds some old TV ads on YouTube (for both Jimmy and Saul) and starts putting things together.
It makes me wonder if Walter White made national news, and how deep down the hole the national media went. Are there true crime podcasts trying to figure out what happened to Saul Goodman? To Jesse Pinkman?
This was established in BB when Walt, in that bar in New Hampshire, saw the interview with his ex business partners. The interview… the part we saw, anyway… was solely about their relationship with Walt.
