Thanks for starting the thread, I goofed.

Great acting by Odenkirk in the final moments when his survival concern for himself and his sincere concern for Chuck are facing off.
Chuck is very much a high priest of the law.

It doesn’t look like the thread was posted yet, so I went ahead and made one.

Chuck really walked into Jimmy’s trap, I’m sure Jimmy would expect Chuck to be pompous and unwilling to admit error, but not in such a perfect way. Chuck’s documents must have been considered untouchable, because no one went in and proofread them. He screwed up in the way he told Kim though - he didn’t have any proof beyond ‘I couldn’t have made an error and Jimmy is shady’, but expected her to accept it and go to Mesa Verde, the Bar and the police to tank Jimmy. I think that if Chuck had gone and tracked down the copy guy before he went to Kim, the confrontation would have been much different.

I suspect that Kim wasn’t sure what to believe when Chuck confronted her, but felt like her only real option was to disbelieve him. I will be interested to see what she does next week - her telling Jimmy that he needs to cover all the loose ends could be her diving in with him into yet another scheme, or it could be a test to determine whether Jimmy did it or not.

I think Jimmy’s lack of foresight is coming to bite him here. He wanted to get MV for Kim, and to get his brother back for stabbing him in the back, but I don’t think he expected the locks to change or for Chuck to have a breakdown. I think the love/hate/competition thing between them is realistically confusing. I noticed that he still did the grounding thing at Chuck’s house even though he knows it doesn’t actually matter, I think that shows he still cares.

Mike got his big chunk of money but got an innocent good samaritan killed. I think this is where he will turn more ruthless. Nacho seems to switch between being in awe of Mike’s abilities and thinking he’s WW level unstable. Also, I saw on anther thread this heist was referenced in BB, Imgur: The magic of the Internet

Kim was amazing this ep, and I suspect shes next in line for getting a karmic smackdown.
Mike, got an innocent killed while pulling off the perfect heist. (sounds familiar for some reason)
Jimmy got his girl in the middle of the drama with Chuck, and got Chuck into the hospital (my guess, I wonder if he dies next ep)
Chuck found out he got played and played hard after stealing MV from Kim, and on top of it got hit with some really hard truth from Kim when she laid out the relationship between the brothers for him.
This is very much the BB writing style. Every single time someone thinks they pulled something off they come face to face with consequences they didn’t predict. I love it.

Like they say on the sports segment, it just keeps getting interestinger and interestinger.

Man, I love this show:

Unanticipated consequences, that’s indeed what this show is about, innit? So we have revealed a) the point in time where Jimmy and Mike arguably become irredeemable (OK, there were the cops in Philly, but they had it coming); b) the point, structurally, of following the parallel Jimmy/Mike story arcs to begin with. Really cleverly done, and beautifully acted by the principals.

Now, while Mike’s little heist made for a very photogenic sequence, it seemed more than a bit too risky to actually carry out in broad daylight. But hey, I’ll roll with it.

Kim totally knows. The necessity of having a big client like MV kept her “believing” Jimmy. This will probably be what ends up breaking them up.

It seems like there’d be a million ways for Mike to have gotten the police involved it that was his big priority. Heck, he could have called them himself.

Kim’s arc seems to be pretty closely mirroring Skylar’s. Like Skylar, Kim would have probably done the right thing if left to her own devices, but she can’t resist being dragged down by her association with Jimmy. I suspect that down the line she will regret her choice.

Jimmy’s actions here come awfully close to another protagonist’s choice to not take action in another season two.

Something I’ve been wondering about, what expectations do we have for where the show has to end up? I think most of us expect that Kim will be out of the picture by the time Breaking Bad begins, but does she have to be? If it turns out that during the events of Breaking Bad Saul is still with Kim despite her never making an appearance on that show, is that an acceptable outcome?

The driver saw Mikes car parked. That might be trouble.

I think it’s interesting that Mike’s not nearly as much of a calm, knowing, methodical badass as most of the audience thinks. He gave Mr. Squat Cobbler a lecture on how ‘you’re a criminal now’ and was appalled that the guy would go to the police, and we all laughed when it ended in a hilarious Jimmy moment with the videos. But he doesn’t seem to have decided whether he wants to be a criminal or not himself, he is in denial about what he’s doing and keeps wanting the benefits of being a ruthless criminal while keeping his hands clean. And he wanted to turn the cartel in to the police, which seems an awful lot like what Squat Cobbler did even if his plan was less dumb. I think this is the point where Mike decides to give up on ‘half measures’ and trying to keep his hands clean.

I wonder if we’re going to find out what happened to Chuck’s wife.

That wasn’t Mike’s car - just a “loaner” to pull off the job. Mike normally drives a maroon sedan (same one he drives in BB) while the car parked behind the billboard was blue.

Ernie’s car seemed to be the same blue as Mike’s crime car.

There’s a theory that red & blue were important colors in the show - blue for good guys and red for bad guys (or, people doing good things wore blue, people doing bad things wore red.)

I assume this relates to the cars - Mike thinks he’s doing good, Ernie is so far good.

I’m not buying the idea that HHM provided an application the day of the hearing and the commission did the investigation of the wrong address on the same day. If that’s the way HHM operates then Giuseppe Verde is better off without them. Nobody would do that. They’d send in that application and double check that the investigation was done correctly before agreeing to appear, and all well ahead of the bank opening. The idea that Chuck would know it was Jimmy that did something would only work because Jimmy had altered the documents the night before. So that was a dumb plot.

Forgiving that transgression, it was one their better episodes. And they got right to the point with Mike’s story, I liked that they did that.

Yeah, I know it’s Taco Grande.

I’ve gotten to where I like this show quite apart from the fact it’s a BB prequel; it’s good on its own.

Any speculation as to how much money Mike got?

I keep expecting Ernesto to reveal his last name is Fring. I can see Gus having a kid who’s a junior associate with HHM. (Actually I’m not sure: is Ernesto a lawyer or a paralegal?)

I’m not going to be surprised if Kim bails on Jimmy in the finale (next episode) - IMO her reactions in this episode are ambiguous. What she did would fit with her being confused by Chuck’s accusation and wondering if Jimmy did it, then made the ‘cover your tracks’ suggestion as a test to see if Jimmy had tracks to over, or with her figuring Jimmy did it all along and deciding to stick with him, if somewhat reluctantly. Kim has to be at least farther back from the picture by the time of BB - there’s no way she’s sharing an office with full-blown Saul Goodman. If they’re still together it wouldn’t break anything in BB, so it would be acceptable to me, but they’d need to sell it.

Also, something I realized is that the Gene scenes might not actually be post-BB like a lot of people are assuming. It would be perfectly consistent for the Cinnabon time to be during the year or so in BB where Jesse was a slave for the gang and Walt was hiding out alone and miserable. The “Gene” storyline might wrap up the show with what he does once he knows Walt is out of the picture and the manhunt is dying down.

$250,000. Nacho confirmed the amount during his meeting with Mike.

Nacho said a quarter million had been ripped off.

Ninja’d

Kim knows for sure and she knew immediately! Why do you think she punched Jimmy as soon as they got in the car?

Interesting point. Whatever Ernie’s position at HHM he’s clearly part of the fabric now.
