Better Call Saul season 6

I thought he was a relatively famous fugitive criminal, a big fish to be caught.

But no matter how famous he is, the FBI can’t legally or actually set up roadblocks on every road out of Omaha. For one thing, it would grind the city to a complete halt if they stopped every car trying to leave it. For another, there are 2 interstate highways that enter/leave the city, 4 or 5 other major routes, and a ton of smaller roads. They’d have to requisition the entire Omaha police department to cover all those roads.

I said something along those lines, and my husband was shocked. He said, “No, she’s happy now, living a new life!” :open_mouth: Dude. That is what you got from those scenes?

As for Jesse, I would just like to say that he reminds me so much of my son. They look alike, behave alike, :crossed_fingers: (not too much I hope), and my son’s name is Paul, as in Aaron Paul. Every time I’m watching Jesse Pinkman, I’m just loving him and wanting him to be okay.

I have to wonder what Rhea Seehorn had to dredge up in order to launch that crying jag. Nobody can fake that well.

I think they wanted us to initially think, “Oh, god she’s stuck in a joyless suburban marriage! Woe is me!”, only to have us find out, she’s not stuck. The guy is just a boyfriend, someone she could dump in a second if she wanted to.

She’s staying in this situation by choice. I think this is her way of paying penance, rather than go to jail.

Sounds familiar.

But she decided, when she talked to Jimmy, that self-flagellation wasn’t enough. She needs to confess and face the consequences of that confession, because, otherwise, despite all appearances, she was still an unrepentant criminal on the lam for Howard’s murder.

Well, she also found out that everyone else involved was dead, so no one would be targeting her if she did come forward.

Totally agree. Not to mention, they wouldn’t go into any kind of full mobilization over some random old crank calling them claiming to have seen Saul. They probably get a few “tips” per week. She knows that he goes by Gene now and maybe not much more. Jeffie knows where he works and might eventually use the information but for now he’s not snitching.

He’s not the Boston Marathon bomber. He’s no longer dangerous. They’ll look for clues in a couple of days if they believe her. He has been plenty of time to go home, pack and execute his escape plan.

The irony is that, while self-serving, Saul’s advice to Jeffey was spot on. No stolen property in the taxi, no case. But Carol’s outing Saul to the cops puts her own son right into the crapper.

Plus, He’s got a few hours leeway there, in any case, because as of that moment, Jeffie is still expecting Gene to come get him out of jail. “You’ll be out by noon”, he said, so Jeffie has no reason to start talking until after that, at least.

Yeah, but he can’t count on that. She has his fake name to trace him to his residence and her story (and detained son) with the name ‘Saul Goodman’ will cause a flag to fly. Every second is precious at this point because while he might well have a couple of days, he also might only have a couple of hours if everything breaks the wrong way.

Still, a couple hours head start is enough to make things interesting - he has a pile of cash, his box of diamonds (plus a few expensive watches), a police scanner. I don’t remember his car, I assume it is pretty nondescript - he needs a new license plate (maybe he stashed one, but we haven’t seen it). He’s anticipated needing to lam it once he started scamming again.

I agree that he should assume that it’s a matter of hours and needs to make haste. He certainly has a plan and he will execute it.

Would be very surprised if his character arc has him fleeing in the end.

But with Kim’s help?

Wouldn’t put it past Gilligan…

Kim wants nothing to do with him. That much is very clear. She told Howard’s wife that she didn’t know if he was alive, a small lie and that’s as far as she will go.

Was that a Pontiac Aztek that Kim’s Florida boyfriend was driving?

Oh, yes. What else, exactly, was she doing there in the years after the divorce? She wasn’t on the lam, hadn’t changed her name. I don’t think she was hiding out from Gustavo and Mike; Mike told her to carry the Howard/Lalo secret to her grave and would be able to find her easily if he wanted to, in any case. I’m thinking she’s punishing herself and nothing more. Even her change in appearance is pointless for purposes of hiding out; without changing her name it should make little difference what she looks like. I think she thinks only morally upright lawyers deserve a blonde ponytail, and it’s part of her self-imposed penance along with Miracle Whip, those dead-eyed co-workers, and Yup-Yup-Yup guy. After some years of that, jail (if that’s where she’s headed) would probably come as an immense relief. She’s already served her time.

I’m pretty sure it was a Honda Element. Another era-appropriate odd looking car that wasn’t very popular.

a guess at a possible ending…Kim mentioned when she confessed to Howard’s wife that, in Kim’s opinion as a lawyer, she probably wouldn’t be arrested/go to jail since there were no corroborating evidence/witnesses (something to that effect). Should Saul get caught by police, what Saul decides to do, or not do, say or not say, will have big implications for Kim and would likely make things worse for Saul. Maybe a chance for him to take the entire fall and “help” Kim. If he could somehow minimize her affidavit and help clear her name or at least have finality of no legal jeopardy, that might help her to not have to live that boring life and do something better.

Or a bullet to the head seems likely, too.

In season 5 episode 1, when he first makes a run for it after his hospital stay and the cab driver giving him an odd look, we see him grab the diamonds, remove the existing license plate and put on a Missouri plate. So he definitely has a 1 hour escape plan in place. Once he finds out that no one is looking for him he goes back to Omaha, only to be confronted by Jeff who did in fact recognize him.
