Let’s ignore the civil case (which the wife brings up, but it’s not like Kim has a ton of money to give.) What laws did she actually break? Lying about the murder would be obstruction, I guess. The scheme on Howard would I be harassment? I could very well see the DA burying this.
“We have the wife of Heisenberg’s lawyer confessing to covering up a murder. Heisenberg’s lawyer was involved, as well as that Salamanca/De Guzman guy who embarrassed you 6 years ago. The person murdered was Howard Hamlin, who still has many powerful people misremembering his final months, because… apparently… the entire ‘Howard was a druggy’ thing was a long con run by Heisenberg’s lawyer and his wife. His fake drug use is part of both the con, and the cover up. This is some pretty sick shit, DA.”
“Naw, there’s no value… especially politically… in me pursuing this case, knowing that not a one of those people were ever brought to justice, all of them dying very TV-friendly deaths. Let her go.”
“And to make up for our state law enforcement and DEA being majorly embarrassed, we’re going to bring it all back up again to charge someone tangentially related with a few misdemeanors.”
From police perspective, it’s still a convincing suicide. If they buy the Lalo murder, the counter would be she covered it up because Mike (ie Gus, druglord) told her to do it exactly the way she did it. I’d say Mike covered it up.
With that said, I see your point. And also, I think her “analysis” would have to involve her pleading not guilty/State needing to prove this, and that would be inconsistent with what she is doing and why. She’d plead guilty, and she’d tell the DA that she would - that wouldn’t make it that hard of a decision for the DA.
Kims crimes go beyond a few misdemeanors. My God, she covered up a murder of a politically powerful, wealthy attorney who has friends all over ABQ. You don’t confess to that and just walk away.
Listen, I’m no law talking guy. Which is why I asked what crimes she specifically committed.
She covered up a murder under extreme duress and the very real threat of death.
The prosecutor responds:
“The defendant was an attorney who knew the laws and procedures of the State of New Mexico. Didn’t matter who told her what, she was still a practicing attorney in the field of criminal law. If there is anyone who should have objected to a cover up in this situation, it is the defendant. That she did not, and then fled to Florida for 6 years, shows she understands this to, your honor.”
For one night.
The next 6 years is on her.
At any rate, I was speculating on an ending. I wonder if Kim’s storyline is effectively done, or if she’ll be heavily involved in the finale (as my ending would require). It could easily just be pure Gene at this point and his downfall. Can’t wait to find out.
Yes, but she didn’t actually DO anything. She was a witness. She could have been afraid to come forward lest they come after her next. It’s plausible.
In the preview, that call to the vacuum guy after some kind of vehicle rollover seems to me to suggest that Kim’s and Jimmy’s last words will be a telephone call.
Did Kim really “cover up” a murder though? She witnessed a murder, and then she sat on a bed and was told to forget everything she saw. Does being aware that a murder was being covered up make her complicit in the crime? And to what extent?
It would definitely be a crime of omission rather than commission. Big difference.
Also, whatever she might be charged with is running head on into the statue of limitations. There is precisely zero reason to go after a former officer of the court over what is, in the final analysis, a super shaky charge based on a shitload of hearsay over events long over and people long dead.
And the defendant being a well known, and known to be very good, lawyer (with quite a bit of that as a criminal defense lawyer).
And they did 2 takes of the crying jag - wow!!
Jimmy was going to use the Urn to brain the dude at the bottom of the stairs to affect an escape. That was a murder weapon, not a trophy. Watches? I got nuthin’.
Speaking of prequel spin-offs I think another idea would be centered on Mike Ehrmantraut and how he “broke bad” to become a corrupt cop.
Obviously Jonathan Banks could NOT play his younger self.
Yeah, but Kaylie will still stay the same age again.
