I vented my spleen just like that on several psaki, occupy democrat, medias touch posts.
Here’s the thing, I’m over it. Done with the
D campaign Deleting and junking all their texts, unfollowing, scrapped my monthly ActBlue donation to DNC. I’m dropping my support burning my receipts.
I just spent two hours doing the most mundane IT stuff for my father, who is 81. I know the president doesn’t have to, but I’d feel better if he were young enough to know how to reset his own password, and how to download the Weather.com app on his phone.
“Dad, go get that little book that mom keeps with all your usernames and passwords”
“I know your wifi password changed because Comcast rolled out a new router, but once we get your TV on the new network Netflix will automatically reconnect, so please stop telling me I need to change your login for Netflix”
My father is 82 and almost certainly more tech savvy than me. Been trying to push Linux on me for decades now . But then he has a PhD in physics and has always loved tech and gadgets. My mother on the other hand (they were long divorced) was hopeless, refused any internet connection and I increasingly had do everything for her in this modern world until she passed away.
Dunno where Biden slots in, but I wouldn’t try to extrapolate from scanty information.
The Dem convention isnt even until August 19th. So, what would happen if the primaries hadnt elected someone by then?
If Biden voluntarily drops out due to health issues, I dont think that will be many,
Well, first of all, you cant trust the NYT on this.
Next- I have read several of those “concern” statements. Pelosi, etc. NONE “expressed concern about his ability to be President.” They either expressed general concern or sometimes poll numbers were mentioned.
For example- Patty Murray Senator, Washington “I believe President Biden must do more to demonstrate he can campaign strong enough to beat Donald Trump.”
And I counted something like 75 saying that Biden should not drop out.
And I scanned the “Biden should step aside” column and none of those I read “expressed concern about his ability to be President.” They expressed concern about his ability to win the election. Not the same thing at all.
And even in the highly biased NYT list of “should step down” we have “I fear if he fails to make the right choice, our democracy will hang in the balance.”= doesn’t say should step down. Americans deserve to feel their president is fit enough to do the job. The crisis of confidence in the President’s leadership needs to come to an end.” Same thing- the crisis of confidence must end- which I agree.
The Democratic National Convention isn’t until August 19-22.
Even if there were zero problems and the presumptive nominee sailed through and was officially nominated that would not be until well after your deadline.
Not to mention what would happen if a candidate died?
It’s been noted several times previously here, but AIUI, this is apparently not the first time this has happened. What has occurred in the past is that the Ohio Legislature passes a one-time law to give an exemption to the party which is having a convention that falls later than their deadline.
There was some debate over whether the GOP-controlled legislature would grant that exemption this year, to the Democrats, but they actually did so; however, there is also apparently some question as to whether or not it’s an ironclad thing; this is why the DNC was planning a virtual roll call vote prior to their convention.
My next question is why would any party schedule their convention after the Ohio deadline?
These things are planned waaaaay in advance. Probably a year or more. The Ohio thing is no surprise and there is no reason they have to be late about it.
Varies a lot; it also probably depends on when the RNC is held (because the parties try to not schedule on top of each other). Recent DNCs:
2004: July 26-29
2008: August 25-28
2012: September 4-6
2016: July 25-28
2020: August 17-20
So, in their past 6 conventions (counting this year), they only have convened before the Ohio deadline twice. (For what it’s worth, this is also true of the RNC; this year was only the second of the past 6 in which they convened before early August.)
That link is just a collection of the statements. There is no commentary (other than dividing them into those general categories). If anyone has doubts, feel free to go through them and read the entire statements - not the blurbs. Some are stronger re ability, some are subtle, and yes, some are, as I stated in my post, merely concerns re: whether “he is our strongest candidate to win”.
Here is Pelosi’s concern (it’s an interview): Biden’s mental fitness is ‘legitimate question,’ recommends interviews with ‘serious journalists’.
Here is a joint (4 congressmen) that Biden must step aside: “We must face the reality that widespread public concerns about your age and fitness are jeopardizing what should be a winning campaign".
I read them. I summarized them. That’s the general feel of them, and I was clear to point out that there were not all about his mental ability.
Sure- but they did divide them into those categories and I dont buy several. Some of the “step down” could just as well be “concern”- and sure there is concern.
And I found none that “expressed concern about his ability to be President.” and the NYT did not use that phrase either.
This kind of playing the ref is a pet peeve of mine.
Everyone makes mistakes, But if the New York Times published that someone was calling on Biden to drop out, and that wasn’t the case, the mischaracterized politician would ask for a correction, and would get it.
Taken literally, this sounds like a call to resign. But I cannot find the full original statement, and so am not sure. It certainly is a call to drop out of the presidential race.
And how would we know? See that article is dated TODAY, and if the Politician asked the times for a correction, it would be be for several days- week, and would be buried somewhere, so we would never see it.
The NYT is biased- this can not be trusted- quotes can be taken out of context, or mis-categorized, and the calls for Biden to stay in can be ignored- I mean, they counted mere candidates or “formers”- and clearly they could pick and choose who they wanted to count to some degree.
Good point. To use a sports analogy, it would be like a hockey team down one with a few minutes to go pulling the goalie in favor of a forward. It’s a risky move, but playing it safe isn’t any better, and the risky move at least has a chance of paying off.
Here’s a link to a “Pass the Torch” ad that links that phrasing all together with the usage in the statements. This ad is currently airing on Morning Joe - a program Biden is known to watch.
This is a coordinated attempt to get the President to drop out.
We’re building back better it’s a long game. Change QB now late in the final quarter? There was never a backup QB! what second string D candidate is going to hit the ground up and running like a seasoned pro. ? Harris ok with ? VP ? Elizabeth Warren.
