I wonder if his Covid is bad.
Ok. It is done. Time to rally around Harris.
Harris cannot be happy with the lack of endorsement.
I expect he’ll endorse in his live remarks, but I guess we’ll see.
BBC has:
Given the rapid news cycle and the ability of the GOP to jump on events and control the message, “remarks next week” will be too late. If he wants the party to rally around Harris, he needs to say so immediately, not a few days from now.
He will endorse whomever wins the nomination at the convention which will be Harris
The Lord Almighty must have intervened. Good move.
It leaves him with the chance to finish out a successful term in office and conclude his public service honorably.
The same BBC story I linked to quotes Biden’s message as saying she was an “extraordinary partner.” Not quite an endorsement, but would at least suggest that he’s not opposed to endorsing her.
I suspect that the hints that tomorrow (Monday) was going to bring a much larger number of members of Congress speaking out, had to play a role in the choice to make the announcement today. Biden did not want to face that level of humiliation.
Reading the tea leaves, it looks like they want some kind of “open” process. Not sure what that looks like. Not sure why Biden could not endorse Harris.
I just think for now, you want to keep it a bit separate. Biden is just dropping out…let it sink in. Then endorse later once a process is established.
He wants to let the party decide without influence
If Biden is not up to the job next year, he’s not up to the job now. He should resign immediately and let Harris run as the incumbent president.
He didn’t claim he wasn’t up for the job.
Many will argue that, but I’m not sure that it’s a majority view. Being President doesn’t require being a forceful public speaker and an ability to travel constantly (for campaigning and donor meetings). It’s more about making decisions and coordinating with aides and Cabinet members.
Only if he has a definite diagnosis that would mean he couldn’t do the latter, would there be a majority view that he must resign.
I guess the good Lord finally chimed in.
Endorsing Harris immediately.
Edit: HA!
Biden endorses Harris:
Beat me to it second try.
So then no VP at all so no tie breaking Senate vote and President Johnson if something happens to her. brilliant plan
That’s good. This needs to be as clean as possible. How it works, all of Biden’s delegates are free to choose whoever they want.
