The conspiracy theory was that he was planning to drop out all along.
It basically when Biden always planned to be a one term president. The democrats just didn’t want a progressive running in the presidential primary in 2024. So Biden ran for reelection and he ran unopposed, no progressive challenged him.
Now that the primary is over, he is dropping out.
There have been rumors this was the plan for months now. No idea if its true or not.
This is very welcome good news for the Dems after all the pieces started to fall into place for an almost guaranteed Trump victory. There is no way Biden could have won. Now there’s a chance for the Dems to stave off the almost unimaginable disaster of a Trump-Vance victory. It will be an uphill battle, and I dearly wish it was someone more likable than Harris, but if she’s as smart as everyone seems to think she is, maybe she can pull off an Obama-like historic first! I’m imagining Trump right now throwing ketchup at the wall.
Gift link for article with step-by-step of what will happen in various circumstances: if Biden endorses Harris, if he doesn’t, if the Dems decide to do a pre-convention vote, if they don’t, etc: https://wapo.st/4bYeacN
Harris gave a nice speech in North Carolina recently. Really used her prosecutorial chops to methodically go after Trump. I feel good about her taking the reins.
Law & order vs convicted felon. Young vs old. A woman vs a man who took away women’s right to choose (and a running mate who wants to take it further). Something new vs something stale. Stability vs chaos. An historic nomination vs the same-old-same-old.
