President Biden Dropping Out of Race

Harris can choose a VP tomorrow if she wanted to. There’s no continuity problem. Just ask Gerald Ford (VP after Agnew resigned).

The conspiracy theory was that he was planning to drop out all along.

It basically when Biden always planned to be a one term president. The democrats just didn’t want a progressive running in the presidential primary in 2024. So Biden ran for reelection and he ran unopposed, no progressive challenged him.

Now that the primary is over, he is dropping out.

There have been rumors this was the plan for months now. No idea if its true or not.

That’s absolutely ridiculous.

Iran Contra was ridiculous too

Eh, if Trump wins he’ll likely get the blame now, so it’s not that good a move from the “legacy” standpoint.

Guess flat earthers are right too!

The replacement VP has to be approved by both Houses of Congress to take office.

Now that Biden doesn’t have to run for reelection, any “kamikaze” actions he might take during his remaining term?

Not without approval approval from the House and Senate.

Unlikely, IMO, as it would reflect on Harris too. Wouldn’t rule it out for sure.

I think @squeegee meant running mate, she’s not taking over as president.

Gov. Gretchen Whitmer of Michigan says she will not be running for president with Biden out.

No. Look at their earlier post

Nobody is going to challenge Harris unless as an intentional spoiler / GOP op.

Got it. But I’d like to see a lot of them go on the record publicly. Shut it all down asap.

He officially endorsed Harris

This is very welcome good news for the Dems after all the pieces started to fall into place for an almost guaranteed Trump victory. There is no way Biden could have won. Now there’s a chance for the Dems to stave off the almost unimaginable disaster of a Trump-Vance victory. It will be an uphill battle, and I dearly wish it was someone more likable than Harris, but if she’s as smart as everyone seems to think she is, maybe she can pull off an Obama-like historic first! I’m imagining Trump right now throwing ketchup at the wall.

I’m glad the Democrats have shown themselves capable of self-correction.

Gift link for article with step-by-step of what will happen in various circumstances: if Biden endorses Harris, if he doesn’t, if the Dems decide to do a pre-convention vote, if they don’t, etc:

My bolding.

(Same article, but not as gift; I hoped it would show a preview of the article but maybe things are screwy now due to volume.)

Harris gave a nice speech in North Carolina recently. Really used her prosecutorial chops to methodically go after Trump. I feel good about her taking the reins.

Law & order vs convicted felon. Young vs old. A woman vs a man who took away women’s right to choose (and a running mate who wants to take it further). Something new vs something stale. Stability vs chaos. An historic nomination vs the same-old-same-old.
