Biden considering dropping out (Update: Biden drops out)

A prolonged and crowded primary race trying to beat Biden is a very different beast than running a fairly abbreviated national race against Trump. She can now run as the centrist lane with some progressive leanings, ready on day one.

The Dems have no choice in the matter. Either Biden drops out and then it is Harris, or Biden doesnt, and it is Biden.

There is no dithering. We already made our choice- Biden. He might drop out, sure- doubtful, but it could happen.

They do not need to. If Biden drops out of the race, he stays in, and there is a new Harris/? ticket.

trump has been worse for months now. Is he being pressured to drop out?

Harris. Newsome.

I’d quibble on both of them, but that’s IMO. I don’t feel that Harris is a particularly strong or charismatic campaigner, and I’m not sure how broad Newsom’s support would be among the liberal base (or the moderates that he’d need to win over to beat Trump).

Congratulations, Mr Trump. President 45 and 47

As I’ve said elsewhere, Trump is and always has been worse than Biden in every conceivable way. I mean that literally, in that I cannot think of a measure or a moment while the two men have been alive where Biden is not better in comparison. But that’s a completely separate argument.

Wanting Biden to be 2023 Biden through 2028 is not enough. I want that, very badly. I don’t think it is possible.

Wanting Trump’s people to see through him is not enough. You have no idea how badly I want people to wake up and see the obvious. They don’t, and they won’t.

The two candidates’ viability are two separate issues. It is irresponsible of Democrats to run a candidate who is past it—not because he’s senile, or experiencing dementia, or any of that nonsense, but because his perfectly normal age-related decline means that, if current trends continue, he won’t be able do the job full time anymore by January. Six months is not negligible for octogenarian health issues, and so many of us have experience watching / caring for people in decline whom we love(d): we know how this goes.

Separately, it is equally irresponsible of Democrats not to capitalize on Trump’s obvious failings: pick the three to five most egregious and make that message inescapable. Trump is a convicted Felon. Millions of Americans died during the pandemic due to Trump’s decisions. Etc. People should be calling for him to step down, but unlike Biden, he actually won a legitimate primary contest this year. Unbelievably, but here we are.

AFAIK Biden is- one bad debate doesnt prove anything.

They may yet do so, they havent really started campaigning.

I’m seeing A LOT of such commercials lately (Philly suburbs).

It is going to take him some time to accept it. I think we will get there, but ultimately it is up to Biden. Betting markets have him dropping out as more likely than not.

Meh.

Biden has to quickly convince a critical mass of critical people that he can convince the public that he is strong and energetic, more than up for the job of the next four years. OF COURSE forcefully saying he is not quitting is part of his best effort to do that.

I hope he can make that sale over the next days to week. He has to really be strong and energetic and on his best game to be able to have any chance at it.

But if he doesn’t? I hope he then is a patriot enough to listen to reason over ego and release the delegates with a strong endorsement of Harris and a strong barnstorming campaign for her.

Biden’s interview with Stephanopoulos will now be airing in its entirety tonight at 8 Eastern.

M. Obama checks all those boxes. And for what a couple recent polls are worth, she beats Tmp by >10 points.

Harris/Obama?

They say that no one is pushing Biden out, and then they publish his nap schedule. His campaign people must be

The only other option the Democrats have is Kamala Harris, and she is not popular. To be charitable, she is dumb. Her messages in speeches come across like the thinks she is making a profound statement to first graders, so she keeps repeating that message. They absolutely can not skip over her for someone else. To even think about a replacement other than her is just that, a thought.

No replacement, no Kamala, and the Democratic Party loses the White House this election. It is becoming very clear.

If you actually paid attention to politics, you’d know she unequivocally ruled out running long ago. It’s just pie in the sky to suggest her.

It wouldn’t be the first time someone in politics said they wouldn’t do something, then did.

And while pie in the sky point taken, all this is, as they say and say, unprecedented.

Harris may be many things, but dumb is not one of them. About the only think I have against her is her voice is a little grating, something along the lines of Fran Drescher. But she’s a smart cookie, she’s tough, and she’s a fighter. I wish she was AG instead of Garland, we’d have had Don the Con in an orange jumpsuit by now.

Funny how that second clip cuts Biden off just before he says…

She has also never held any political office, elected or appointed, and has made it clear dozens of times that she has absolutely no interest in doing so. Suggesting her as a candidate is about as realistic as suggesting Taylor Swift.

Yep, that’s a guy who is on top of the game, all right.

I just don’t get stuff like this. You’re so busy catching Joe Biden for every slip of the tongue while completely ignoring the utter unfitness of his opponent.

This is the difference between Republicans and Democrats: Republicans will ignore every imaginable infirmity and obscenity in their candidate, while Dems pick theirs apart like vultures working on dead bodies rotting in the sun.

I’ll take half-speed or quarter-speed Joe Biden any day over full-speed Trump.
