Biden to nominate Ketanji Brown Jackson to SCOTUS

good hades, it is cruz time?

The idea of Ted Cruz as a “smileball” frightens me, and I don’t even know what it could possibly be.

I assume it is a typo for slimeball?

Trial court experience vs. total judicial experience is the difference there. Since the Supreme Court isn’t a trial court, a lot of judges elevated to it are coming from more appellate experience than trial experience.

Because Sen. Feinstein asked the same questions of Justice Barrett less than two years ago. It’s politics, which most of these hearings are about.

Yes. I is smart person.

I first read it as “smiteball”, and I thought you wanted to smite him with a ball.

So what? What’s the alternative? Never have an African American woman on the court? Republicans gonna Republican. No reason to allow that to stand in the way of anything.
(Further, I don’t agree that these hypothetical attacks would be valid.)

This would seem to fit…

I think you’re mistakenly thinking I am arguing this is a good thing or a proper thing. I’m not, simply this this the way the world is. The Dems maybe should nominate her because its the right thing to do. The GOP will have a field day with it…much like many other of the policies where the Dems get their asses kicked politically for being the grownups in the room.

Are you still -concerned- that she’s not experienced enough?

If not, what changed you mind?

If so, what child change your mind?

OK, so allow me to repeat two questions. 1) So what? 2) What’s the alternative?

Would it be argumentative to ask what this means?

Why are they asking her questions about things that are not in her lane?

God Damn, I fucking hate Tom Cotton.

So you are still in effect saying they shouldn’t have nominated her, saying they’ll pay for that decision politically. It seems to be the typical idea that the Democrats should be subservient to the worst of the Republicans, being worried about how they might spin things. But that’s what Republicans do. There was no one who could be nominated who they wouldn’t be able to scare people with. The only reason they wouldn’t do it is if they actually liked the candidate, and, given Republicans’ current focus, that would mean someone who would overturn Roe v. Wade or other “liberal” decisions they hate. They really don’t care about anything else in a candidate.

It seems that, based on your questions and continued skepticism, you assumed she was an unqualified judge who had gotten the job due to her race and background. But the whole point of all of this was to hire someone whose background is essentially unimpeachable. It’s the typical structure of having the black person be very much overqualified in order to be seen at the same level as a white person. Any attempt to try and dogwhistle by calling her unqualified can be disputed easily.

Republicans have made it easier not to care about how they will react by reacting at DEFCON-1 for nearly everything Democrats do. Democrats have started to learn that it’s only legitimate issues they need to worry about, because those who would believe the unreasonable shit will believe it no matter what the Dems do. They were already fired up.

Biden has to worry more about his own side, and giving people a reason to vote Democrat. He needs to be seen as doing something about the way the Republicans are hijacking the Supreme Court.

His function in the party is one of the rotation they send in when the mob is screaming to see heads bitten off chickens and no less outrageous spectacle will do.

I had to turn the tv off, it was making me so angry to watch the way he was treating her.

He’s a vile little worm.

Josh Hawley is not much better. Slime.

Yes, I had to turn the channel. That was ridiculous. Nothing he mentioned are things she will see on the Supreme Court.
