Biden v Trump: June 27 debate (Live debate comment here)

Jon Stewart: Biden Debate Performance Made Democrats ‘Jump Out of Windows’

I was kidding in response to the post suggesting the photographer was fired.

But apparently he takes naps during the day. Certainly not a crime but an indication of age.

President Joe Biden never started his debate preparation before 11 a.m. and was always “given time for an afternoon nap each day,” according to a New York Times report on the lead-up to Biden’s disastrous debate performance last week.

“In the weeks and months before President Biden’s politically devastating performance on the debate stage in Atlanta, several current and former officials and others who encountered him behind closed doors noticed that he increasingly appeared confused or listless, or would lose the thread of conversations,” the New York Times on Tuesday.

You don’t understand the contradiction between “memorizing nothing” and “memorizing something”?

Or the vast excluded middle between “showing signs of age” and “unable to understand what is going on and requiring handling”?

Which “mainstream media favorable to Biden” are those?

So you’re saying Biden noticed and acknowledged a jumper whom no one else had noticed and acknowledged? Seems pretty sharp to me.

Only for Republicans.

Wait until you hear about the guy who kept falling asleep during his felony trial.

Biden and his team are also trying to sell the idea that the international trip tired him out to such a degree that we should all excuse his debate performance.

Note that he was back in the USA a full two weeks after that trip, and, as mentioned in the quote, he had six days before the debate to rest and relax at Camp David.

It’s as though the Biden team have no idea of the implications of their talking points. ‘Our guy can’t perform for ninety minutes after having six days of rest at Camp David’ is really NOT going to convince people doubting his fitness and stamina that he’s “fine.”

As I’ve said elsewhere, the Dem base will vote for Biden no matter what. We know the stakes of a second Trump Presidency.

But the Dem base is not enough to create a Dem win. The less-informed, the less-inclined to vote, and the moderates and independents MUST be inspired to make the effort to vote, and to vote Democratic. (Not only for President but also for the House.)

What about any of these excuses will inspire them to do so?

Will any of them even KNOW about the excuses? Remember, they don’t pay much attention to the news or to politics.

If they know, will they care? Or will they care about who looks stronger and better able to perform the duties of the office?

It’s also diminishing the credibility of the Dem supporters. It’s like “The Emperor Has No Clothes”. They’re telling us a bunch of stuff about how sharp he is, but that’s not the Biden we’re seeing with our own eyes. Here’s a link to the segment from Jon Stewart back in Feb where he’s talking about the same issues:

Jon Stewart Tackles The Biden-Trump Rematch That Nobody Wants | The Daily Show

There are about 5 clips of Dems are saying how sharp Biden is behind closed doors. Jon then says, “Did anyone film that?” I don’t think the Dems are fooling anyone by saying that Biden is sharp as ever and just had an off day. He’s been having a lot of off days. If Biden is actually sharp behind closed doors and in meetings, he needs to demonstrate that level of sharpness in front of the cameras at every opportunity. Otherwise, just own it and figure out a way to go forward with Biden in his current ability.

Yes. As I’ve pointed out elsewhere, C-SPAN would gladly show news conferences and town halls, no matter how quickly scheduled. These would be unscripted events at which Biden could show his alleged sharpness (and energy). This is the only way to prove that 6/27 was not simply a “bad night.”

As many have said, the Biden team and supporters are consistently attempting to gaslight us. It’s positively Orwellian: ‘ignore the evidence of your eyes and ears.’

The tragic thing is that though the Dem base might agree to pretend everything is okay and vote accordingly, THAT WILL NOT BE ENOUGH VOTES TO REELECT BIDEN. The Dem base is not enough. The gaslighters need to convince the less-engaged and the moderates and the independents to Ignore the Evidence of Your Eyes and Ears.

Why on earth would the less-engaged and the moderates and the independents do that? They, by definition, do not see Trump as an existential threat, mostly because they are, you know, less-engaged.

They see only a weak man and a man that looks stronger.

If the Biden people can’t change THAT, then Trump wins.

If Biden is as bad as claimed, why do the Republicans need to create so many misleading narratives and mislabelled or cropped photos (examples upthread)? Is it:

A) Biden isn’t actually as bad as portrayed;
B) The Republican Party are so morally bankrupt they just lie about everything reflexively; or
C) Both of the above?

Let’s be clear - Biden really is too old to be President. He’s not the dementia-ridden husk the right like to claim he is, but he really shouldn’t be running for the most stressful job in the country at his age.

But you can count me among those who will choose the “too old” guy over the “too old, too corrupt, too criminal, and too willing to facilitate the destruction of American democracy and the rule of law” guy. And replacing him at this point will guarantee the latter guy wins.

It sucks that this is where we are. But here we are.

Want some actual gaslighting? Not an opinion that seems to be largely based on one data point? How about, ‘Biden takes naps and that proves he’s senile’?

Agreed. Alfred may be too old to run the Batcave by himself, but giving the job to The Joker is just batshit crazy.

So someone has argued that? 'Naps = senile"…?

I’m not seeing it.

And of course for informed Democrats, the question is NOT ‘does Biden have cognitive issues?’ but instead ‘can Biden get reelected?’

The latter is all that matters at this point. Anything else can be dealt with later.

If the Dems could get this kind of message across, it’s the right message. But good luck with that. Politicians always say that their opponent is evil, untrustworthy, and will bring about the apocalypse. Why would anyone believe the politicians this time? Sure, it’s true this time, but the unengaged voters aren’t going to believe it just because the Dems say it. And the Repubs are saying the same thing about the Dems. I’m not sure how the independent voters can be swayed to vote for Biden just to stop Trump.

Take it up with the poster that seems to be of the opinion that Biden taking naps is indicative of something other than Biden takes naps.

But again, nobody’s saying that. What they’re saying is that Alfred should be replaced by someone younger and more capable.

It’s not a choice of Alfred vs. Joker, it’s a choice of Alfred’s Replacement vs. Joker.

I don’t think it means he is senile, but I also tend to agree with the sentiment that if someone needs daily naps, he is probably not quite up for being president for the next 4+ years.

If Batman’s only two options are a too-old Alfred or the Joker, perhaps Robin should step up and have a frank conversation with Batman about his leadership skills vis-à-vis hiring & retaining staff.

Well, I don’t know who that is. But the over-arching point should be, this is not anything approaching a majority view among those saying Biden should step down. It’s just not one of the arguments (except maybe for the one person you claim is saying it).

During the second world war, Churchill would nap for at least an hour in the early afternoon, writing in his war memoirs: “Nature had not intended mankind to work from eight in the morning until midnight without the refreshment of blessed oblivion which, even if it only lasts 20 minutes, is sufficient to renew all the vital forces.”

John F Kennedy took a daily post-lunch nap with his wife, Jackie, with doors closed, phone calls barred and no paperwork delivered. His head of household staff, JB West, recounted: “Nobody went upstairs, for any reason.”
Bill Clinton, who appeared to nod off during Joe Biden’s first presidential address, once said: “On the days when I’m a little short of sleep, I try to work it out so that I can sneak off and just lie down for 15 minutes, a half an hour, and it really makes all the difference in the world.”
Ronald Reagan, however, seemed ashamed of his habit, with his wife, Nancy, denying rumours of his daily naps, afraid he would be branded lazy.

The event was certainly set up ahead of time. The rest of the G7 leaders were grouped in front of the camera after the landings. Biden wanders off to give a thumbs up to someone who isn’t even looking at him. He had to be redirected back to the group. So either all the other leaders were clueless gits or Biden was distracted from the event.

Power naps are just that. They’re short naps taken as a break. Long naps are a different matter. He is the President with responsibilities. He’s expected to be alert and awake.

The link between napping and Alzheimer’s

  • There is some evidence that Alzheimer’s disease may increase napping, and that this, in turn, may worsen the symptoms of Alzheimer’s.

  • Likewise, this increase in napping due to Alzheimer’s had associations with worsened thinking abilities 1 year later.

Maybe I just missed it but I can’t find anything that says anything about the length of Biden’s naps in your cite.
Yes, alert and awake, sadly the Biden Whitehouse does not have a ‘Dr FeelGood’ to hand out uppers to counteract the downers he ‘’‘’‘prescribes’‘’‘’ like they’re Pez . . . like our Glorious, President for Life, God, Emperor, Trump did.
