I laughed hard at last night’s episode.
A very strong season.

They did? Did I miss something? Or do you mean a more literal definition of ‘broke the fourth wall’?
They didn’t so much break it as they hung pictures on it.
Rather than break the fourth wall, they actually showed it to us.
They show very little of the guys at work. There are episodes around in it, but it has never been a main theme. I’m sure they’ll get back to it eventually, but while watching 3 guys do science and technology can be fun (better if it is two guys and a hot girl), it is seldom funny.
Did I goof? They were looking directly at the audience/camera and talking about pictures hung on the wall and such. They weren’t actually talking to the audience.
I’ll have to go look. I didn’t get the impression they were actually talking to the audience, just to each other about the picture hanging on the ‘fourth wall’. Perhaps I missed something.
As soon as they reported to the officer that they couldn’t meet the deadline, and he extended it to three years … they hurried out of the room, making it clear that it was time to goof off.
Nitpick: He extended it to two years:
Fun episode. Has the actual symbolism of their apartment’s flag ever been explained?
Sheldon likes it. Although they have never explained why, since the image is rather common.
Thank you! I’d expect Sheldon to have the flags of California and Pasadena displayed, too, but maybe he just doesn’t like the designs.
Another poor episode ruined by running two unrelated stories in too short of time. Either do one main story or two interrelated stories.*
Agree that it was nice to see a tiny bit of the “good” Stewart again. Facing off against Raj is better than the old sad sack buddy routine.
Many years ago, I used to defend Sheldon as “not a jerk”. That he just had alternate social skills. No malevolence intended. Sometimes the writers would drift off the good center of this oddness, but they’d never stray too far or too long.
But this episode …
Big time jerk all the way. What a loss.
I’ll bet that today’s episodes of BBT are at least five minutes shorter than episodes of Seinfeld, because of the increased number of commercials and station promos. That’s an entire character arc per show.
I didn’t think either story in this episode was too short, though.
