Big Nothing?

Does anyone know which group sang a song called “Big Nothing”?It was a 3 girl- group.

Sort of folk-type music and the video (late 80s) featured all 3 girls suspended by bungi cords on a blank set.

It was never a smash hit, but still a cute song. Does anyone remember?

The Roches, from their album Speak, released in 1989. The exact title, in case you go searching, is Big Nuthin’.

The song was inspired by their appearance on Saturday Night Live. Apparently they were told, or just expected, to be big stars after being on a national show like SNL, but it turned out to be a big nuthin’.

Thank you! Gah! heaps blessings upon your house

Woah, freaky. I just saw their episode of SNL yesterday morning.

You’re welcome. It took almost two hours, that’s a long time for an identify-this-song thread. I think we’re on the very fringe[sup]*[/sup] of collected wisdom here.

Now I have to put a couple Roches CDs in my listening rotation. I had no idea they ever did a video for Big Nuthin’, I’d like to see it, and the SNL clip.

[sub]* Actually, we have a ways to go to get to the actual fringe. One of my favorite groups did a parody of The Roches with a song about a chihuahua in a microwave.[/sub]

Thanks once again.

The story behind my trying to find this follows:

About 1988 or 1989, I saw the video. Once. Thought it was cute…liked the song. It was pretty, folky, and I liked the harmonies.

That was the last time I heard the song, and saw the video.

About every year or so, I think to myself, "Gosh…I wonder who that group was, that I liked so much, but…good lord, there’d never be any way I could ever find out who it was–they seemed to disappear off of the face of the (pop) earth.

Last night, as we do on every Friday night, we had a large group of friends over for gaming, and during one particularly harrowing game of Settlers of Catan, I rolled a number that didn’t produce anything for me, and we all had a chuckle, and I said, “Man…that was a big nothin’.” And woooosh. I knew that was the name of the song I was looking for. I ran upstairs, did a search on google…nothing.

This is why I absolutely adore this site. I -knew- there would be a Doper who could help a girl out.
