There’s a type of bikini I’ve been seeing more of recently and I was wondering, is there a name for it? It’s like a thong, but where a thong has a curve that give it its whale-tale look, this has straight edges over the buttocks. It’s got more coverage than a thong, but less than a “half-back” (at least according to bikiniscience’s pics). It’s like the shortest edges of a pair of 20-70-90 triangles meeting in the butt crack. Although normal bikini bottoms stretch over the butt crack, this style hugs it, making it look almost painted on.
Jennifer Aniston wore a purple one last winter or something, and I’ve seen it on a few other celebrities who I don’t remember, maybe one of the William’s sisters.
From what I can see, a traditional bikini bottom covers the butt cheeks and crosses the side with a relatively wide piece of material. A thong (or similar styles) goes up between and then above the butt cheeks and leaves them bare and crosses the side with a string or narrow strip. A brazil bottom appears to be a style that goes diagonally across the butt cheeks - half of each butt cheek is covered and half is exposed - and then, like the thong, has a narrow strip or string across the side.
Sorry to possibly answer my own question, but while trying to find out a better way of describing it, I found a website (standard girls in bikinis warning) that said it’s called a “scrunch bottom” bikini. The one on Jennifer Aniston must be a subset of that. Hers, however, is larger than a thong, but smaller than a Brazilian. One thing that strikes me as different is how the hypotenuse is a straight line instead of following the curves, like others.
It has been so long since I have posted I cannot remember yet how to properly attach a link, but Victorias Secret has a really cute blue one. If you search by type of bottom and select “string” I think page 2 has a really cute turquoise one!
