What is it with right-wing pundits and their persecution complexes? Rush Limbaugh, Ann Coulter, Sean Hannity…They’ve all claimed the left is “out to get” them and shut them up. It’s almost as if they’re trying to one up each other on how much they’re reviled.

Yes. I’m saying he’s lying. He didn’t say that the FBI said that to him and only him. He said they told “a group” of people they were Al Qaida targets. Why is it none of those people have come forward to confirm? Why is Fox News issuing a “no comment”?

They feed on that controversy. It causes people to listen or watch them to see what it is that would cause such a thing to happen. And yes, they probably are trying to one-up each other with regards to revulsion, because that is how they make their living. Nobody tunes in to hear them take the middle-of-the-road positions, they tune in to hear them skewer Democrats. The better they are at it the more people will listen. Nobody likes a boring talk show host. They like a guy who stirs the pot.
I don’t know if it’s true or not, but I don’t see that as the main point. A serious news guy wouldn’t annouce that even if it were true. But Bill’s show is more about Bill than it is about issues. He’s a blowhard who appeals to a rather ignorant demographic. It’s sad, too, because he actually does have a brain in his head-- he just stopped using it a long time ago.
I wonder if Keith Olbermann will have this on his show tonight? Hell, he probably will.

If Rosie O’Donnell had made that claim, I’d be wondering which of her maintenance meds she was currently off of. Hell, if any news commentator made that claim, the first thing I’d be thinking (as I was in this case) would be “Why?” Why the hell would Al Qaida bother targeting any news reporter? If they were going to switch tactics from wholesale devastation to targeting specific people, I don’t believe news celebs would top their lists. That’s just me, though.

O’Reilly’s the only ballsy one, perhaps? Maybe the others want to stay below the terrorist radar as much as possible? Maybe Fox News itself has been intimidated and doesn’t want to make itself a bomb target?
All sorts of things occur as to why others aren’t saying anything, but to me it would be risky to the point of stupidity to claim the FBI had issued a warning when it hadn’t; such a thing could be easily debunked by the agency itself, and I wouldn’t think the FBI would take to kindly to be being used as a publicity prop by O’Reilly.
More of the former than the latter, truth be told.
I wouldn’t be surprised if there was some sort of vague, general warning given to journalists after those two FoxNews guys were abducted in The West Bank (or was it Gaza?). And I could see O’Reilly blowing that out of proportion to make it all about him. He makes some pretty outrageous statements, but there’s usually some sliver of truth that he can defend himself with after-the-fact. There’s an awful lot of spinnin’ going on in that “No Spin Zone”!
