Bill Clinton Looks Terrible- is there anything specifically wrong with him?

Clinton was interviewed by Sanjay Gupta on Cooper 360 tonight. If you didn’t know him and were told “this man is in his 70s and in ill health” you wouldn’t be at all surprised about either. Still pics and video here I realize he had major heart surgery in the last couple of years, but I assumed he was recuperated; does anybody know if he has major health problems at the moment?

I’m about a year older than Clinton. He looks a little older than I do (because I was never President), but not much.

So what you’re saying is that you look terrible?

I think he looks pretty good for his age. The difference between people like him and people that spend their lives working in the sun all day is amazing.

I think he mostly just doesn’t get enough sleep. I’ve often seen him over the years looking tired and with huge bags under his eyes.

I think, based on comments he’s made from time to time, that he’s very much aware of the passage of time and that he has less time ahead than behind and so he’s trying to make the most of what he has left by trying to sleep as little as possible.

I don’t know how that works for him, but I’m around his age and I find that if I don’t get my seven-and-a-half hours at night I feel like I’m in a mental fog all the next day. I used to be able to stay up all night, work all day and stay out till 3 a.m. the next morning, sleep 4 hrs. and do it all again…but no more.

If I’m not mistaken, he suffers from rosacea, which brings reddening of the facial skin and enlargement of the nose (more so in men). Why he hasn’t sought treatment (lasers and such) is beyond me. I had laser treatment for rosacea a couple of years ago and the results are great.

Just so we’re on the same page here, he’s 60 years old. (Born on August 19, 1946.)

Terrible? He just looks like a normal 60 year old man to me.

And perhaps that’s the real porblem. He’s kept a relatively low profile since leaving office, and a lot of people have seen very little of him in the last 8 years. If they’d seen him regularly during that time, they’d have seen him age gradually and wouldn’t think anything was odd.

But when you see a 60 year old man for the first time in 8 years, you’re liable to think, “Whoa… he got OLD!”

I wouldn’t know about his overall health, but he lost weight after that operation. I think he’s always looked kind of haggard as a result.

Plus he’s had bad allergy problems for a long time, which can certainly contribute to bags under the eyes. To me he looks pretty normal for 60. Plus they say being president ages you physically several years for every year you’re in the White House, which makes him look even better for his age to me.

I saw him too, and thought he looked more baggy eyed than normal, plus having Aged President Syndrome. Mostly it made me wish he was still president.

Maybe he’s suffering from terminal blue balls because Monica isn’t around and Hillary won’t put out?

He looks about 6 years further into his “golden years” than Inauguration Day, 2001, which is great, because right after his heart surgery, he looked like death warmed over.

Too many cigars.

I saw a photo spread a few years ago that showed presidents at inauguration and then when they left office - no question they all seemed to have aged 15 years. Just shows that stress really does beat up a body.

You mustn’t have seen photos of him just before and after his heart surgery - he looked horrible. In contrast, that photo on the CNN site makes him look pretty hardy.

I disagree that all men who are 60 look that old, though; sun really does a number on skin and people who’ve not spent as much time in the sun don’t look that old. Have a look at a photo of Tom Selleck at 61.
And here’s John Edwards who’s just 8 years younger.

Sure he looks bad. He put his heart & soul into making America a better place and succeeded at just about every level. For the past seven years, however, he has had to watch Bush destroy it all. If you had to watch a house you built with your own two hands be destroyed by a coke-head with a smirk and a sledge hammer, while all you could do is sit back silently and do nothing, I submit that you’d look like crap too.

[jk]If you had to put up with Hillary you’d look rode hard and put away wet too![/jk]

Seriously though, I don’t think he looks bad. I’ve heard he doesn’t like to sleep much and he has allergies, which can make you all puffy - the pollen count in some places has been about a zillion lately.

Or lifelong sun-lover Robert Redford, 70, at last year’s Sundance.

Please, please, please… don’t ever use the keywords Hillary[Clinton], rode hard and wet in one sentence ever again… (I’m so glad I’m gay already as that might have done it).

I hope my hairline is that healthy at 60.

I hope I’m that rich and powerful at 60. :stuck_out_tongue:
