Bill Clinton Quote on Guns - Involves the Hitler Quote

Is the following quote really something Bill Clinton said:

Googling it just seems to bring up pages that also mention the following false quote from Hitler:

So, it the Bill Clinton quote real or is it as fake as the Hitler quote?

I don’t recall his trying to register firearms when he was Governor…

It’s unlikely that Clinton said that. The US, at the time, had tighter gun rules than most nations. Because Clinton, for most of his tenure, had little control over congress, he knew better than to thumb his nose at the powerful gun lobby. Mind you, the NRA always claimed he was aching to take away all the guns, but it wasn’t true. He didn’t have the power.

The fact that Google can’t dig up anything close to a credible cite tells me it’s bogus.

That, and the speech pattern doesn’t really jive with Clinton’s oratory. It doesn’t “sound” like something he’d say, at least in those words.

There was a picture in the local AR paper of his duck hunting with a bunch of guys here.
Standing around holding shotguns.
They got one duck.

It got a lot of play over on Usenet in 1995. First post was on a militia board.

At what time was that? I can’t think of any country, under the rule of law, with less restrictions on guns than America. As for the OP, is it possible Clinton was talking about the Gun Control Act of 1968 while he was at university?

Does Iraq count? We’re limiting them to one AK 47 per household.
Maybe the qualifier is that ‘under the rule of law’ phrase.
