A question about unclviny's pit thread on gun control...

Okay, it’s not really about his thread, but about something I read in the link posted in it. This is his thread, this is the link to the gun control statement, and in it is a statement I’m wondering about.

So, what exactly is the point being made here? I’m not getting it. Are they advocating or arguing against gun control? Fight ignorance! Educate me!

The point being made is that the Nazis saw gun registration as an essential part of creating a totalitarian state. It is offered as an argument against gun control, unless, of course, one favors the creation of a totalitarian state.

The quote is also a lie promulgated by people who oppose gun control laws in order to scare undecided people into opposing gun control laws because they would, of course, oppose Hitler.

This is one of the reasons that I rarely dip into the gun control debates. I generally oppose gun control laws (as they have been proposed over the last 25 years), but I find so many really stupid and dishonest people spewing lies and nonsense on the subject that I feel whipsawed between arguing against the bad ideas of control proponents and telling people on “my side” to stop spewing dishonest nonsense. I think reasonable folks like Ex Tank have made the gun ownership case very well in the past and I don’t feel a need to make my own stomach upset by participating.

Hitler was a sober vegetarian, too.

I would advise Heloise to only date guys with a healthy appetite for beer and meat. Any other description could mean he’s a Nazi.

No problems, there, Coldfire, I think I’m in the clear on that one.
