That’s because your premise is faulty. Presidents don’t dictate or even influence much how people think and behave. How many people began adopting conservative dress, manners and social values under Reagan or either of the Bushes?

I was never at a point where I would be certain that Clinton lied about inhaling. I had a grandfather who smoked tobacco products including cigarettes and he never inhaled. He puffed. Hard to believe, but I’ve seen it often enough with him.
And I can remember the first time a joint was passed to me and the struggle between guilt and getting along with the group resulted in limiting myself to puffing. It didn’t go over well with my friends who were horrified with the waste. So I succumbed to the peer pressure and as others have mentioned , I didn’t get high. Mind you pot in those days was nothing like it is today.
And in my estimation,pitting this great man who has dedicated his life in the service of others over this stupid little issue is merely indicative of a useless human being.

I meant to address this too. All he has ever dedicated his life to is trying to be the biggest big-shot that he could be. If he had truly been trying to be of service to others he wouldn’t have governed as he did, which was with an eye on next year’s election and last night’s polls. He had no standards, no goals, and no ambitions other than to be a big-shot. He would do whatever paid off politically and that was it.

If president’s don’t influence how people behave, why do you get yourself into such a lather over Clinton’s dishonesty? Take away the morality argument, and judged on achievements (budget, peace, and prosperity) his time in office was a success.
FD used to be puddleglum, so he certainly does have a conservative posting history. I had to read the Clinton-praise twice because I couldn’t believe it was coming from FD. Which is why I think he was attempting humor. Such as it is.

It’s like lies are the primary tool he uses to make people think what he wants them to think and to get what he wants, and in keeping with his Slick Willie moniker he seems to have it calculated out so that he knows that for every lie he tells, most people won’t know any better and that the relatively few who do won’t be enough to matter. I’ve often wondered if he and Hillary don’t get together privately sometimes and chuckle between themselves at all the shit they can pull and still get people to support them.
