Bill Clinton: Still a lying sack of shit; still getting a pass from journalists.

But the intelligent intelligence services figured that he didn’t.

This is an allegation with absolutely no evidentiary basis.

That’s how it is with most people, in my experience. At least when it comes to politics and family.

Polycarp thinks it’s possible.

That history is sort of wny it is hard to work up much outrage.

I think there needs to be some element of surprise to create shock and outrage. Clinton lied about everything. The only surprise is that he was so bad at it, and the only outrage is that he was allowed to get away with it.

Now that he is no longer President, he is still lying thru his teeth. Imagine that. I rather suspect that if someone cared to look, he is still getting his knob polished by the hired help, and Hilary is looking the other way.

Obviously this kind of thing from a former politician isn;t going to get any traction on the SDMB, which is why threads about Cheney sink like a stone,

Shodan

Damn that Clinton! Will his tyranny never end?

No argument there. Once a philanderer, always a philanderer.

Not true. It is possible for a man to change.

You fuck just one sheep…

Years ago, when Christopher Hitchens was on his book tour for “No One Left To Lie To,” I attended his Seattle appearance. During the Q&A a member of the audience asked about drug use in the Clinton White House. Part of Hitchens’s answer was a story from 1968, when he and Clinton were both at Oxford (they didn’t know each other, Hitchens said, but they had mutual friends). According to Hitchens, by reputation Clinton, as big an eater then as later, was an avid devourer of pot brownies.

So there you have it. Consumed plenty of pot, didn’t inhale. I have no idea if this is true, but it’s my favorite explanation.

No, I explained all this upthread. He claimed on the show last night that he meant his “didn’t inhale” to be humorous, that it was a joke that his political enemies distorted to make it seem he really meant it, and used as part of the basis for tagging him with the “Slick Willie” moniker. I saw his statement at the time and I’ve seen video of it since, but I haven’t been able to find it today on Youtube. I did however post a quote of statement in the OP, which clearly shows he wasn’t joking when he made his comment about not inhaling. I’ll post it again since it looks like several people have missed it:

“When I was in England, I experimented with marijuana a time or two, and I didn’t like it. I didn’t inhale and never tried it again.”

The fact that he wasn’t joking appears to be further substantiated by his subsequent claims, according to Dio, that he couldn’t inhale because of athsma.

So to me it’s pretty clear that he was not joking when he said it, that he is lying when he says he was, and that he is lying again when he tries to make it look like his political opponents twisted it into a serious comment in order to make him look bad. It’s so typical of Bill Clinton, lies upon lies, upon lies.

And yet there sat Brokaw, willingly letting himself be used as a mouthpiece for Clinton’s attempt to indict Republicans for his own dishonesty.

Truth be told I’m not really all that “outraged” by any of this, but to the degree that I am ticked off by it, it’s probably more so at Brokaw than at Clinton, from whom dishonesty, as has been pointed out, is only to be expected.

I never really expected it to get any traction in terms of condemnation of Clinton, but it has let to a livelier exchange than I expected, including even the offer of a blow job. Who knew?

Damn, Harding and the Teapot Dome Scandal too!!!

Agreed, assuming there is some catalyst for change…

And my response to this is: so what? So fucking what? Seriously why do you care? He could be having a daisy-chain gang-bang Wednesday through Monday and going to North Korea on Tuesday to pick up a couple of Asian chicks and my response would be "good on him and kudos, fine sir.”

The only reason I ever give a shit about what the hell happens in the private life of a politician (Democrat or Republican) is when that politician shoves it in our face about how moral he is and how sinful we are. Because it’s funny to laugh at that guy as he gets his come-uppance when he’s caught dressed in diapers and baby bonnet with two cans of Cheese Whiz in the bathroom of a Stop-N-Go being filmed by a midget who’s high on X.

It’s the hypocrisy that grates me so much, not the lying or the philandering or drug use. It’s the hypocrisy. And it’s only Republicans that tell you how upstanding, good Christian straight Americans should be acting so it’s really only them that need making fun if (when) they eventually fall from grace.

Barack Hussein Obama. You know it doesn’t count unless you do the Hussein part of it.** :dubious:**

I vote “who cares” and "get Starving Artist a girlfriend or a library card or something. And cut off his cable.

Well he got the blow job offer, so all he needs is a library card.

He can’t have one. Libraries are liberal institutions that are practically socialist. I’m sure he wouldn’t want to patronize one of THOSE!

Rather than your characterization of his statement, please quote what he actually said on the show. Forgive me if I am dubious about your ability to convey Clinton’s remarks to us accurately with your repeated paraphrasing.

Well, shit, then until the libraries start putting out a little more bi-partisan effort, the dainty anti-conservative constitutions of the Dope are gonna have to get used to the vapors.

One can’t help but wonder though if you, like many other posters around these parts, use the contretemps of one Republican politician to paint Republicans in general as immoral hypocrites. Judging by the tone of your post you may very well not, and if so good on ya, but plenty here do.
