Well, who made you the big Jell-O sheriff of this house?
Not until we give you a little snakey lick…

possibly the funniest bill cosby’s ever been was eddy murphy’s impression of the man.
it was so spot on, i forget sometimes.
but yes, even as a 23 year old who wasn’t even born when cosby’s records were made, i think they’re rather funny. not uproariously so but still above average.
When he started he was a very successful standup and his records were big sellers. He was amusing. But on his TV show when he told his son “I brought you into this world, I can take you out” , he lost me. I hate family and friend insults in sitcoms. You don’t talk to your kids and family that way. It is not funny.
Obviously, you never had a son with brain damage.
I actually liked that line. Some of his parenting shtick I never really related to (not being a parent I guess) but the way he said it just made me laugh. Plus, didn’t Theo say something particularly idiotic to bring it on?
But surely you were once a child! I’m not a parent either, but a good chunk of the parenting stuff I related to because I was the dumb kid who buzzed my own head with a shaver.
Why did you do that?
I don’t know!
“Don’t you talk back to me when I’m talking to you-ANSWER ME!!!”
Heh. I was the nauseatingly good child who feared doing anything bad ever and got a neurotic guilt complex if I even did something slightly wrong. I…have issues.
I first heard him use that line back in the 1960’s, on one of his comedy albums. He was describing a lecture delivered to him by his dad.
I thought it was hysterical then, and still do now. As do my kids.
[sub]fun fact: My youngest child was conceived a few hours before the Mrs. and I went to a Cosby performance in Milwaukee in 1988[/sub]
There’s smoke and fire and Jello!
Oh look! A Rainbow!
You better not touch…certain areas of your body.
I think what made his act work was that he was, by all appearances, a distinguished, educated, and proper man. Yet he found raising a family so exasperating at times that his behavior devolved into lunacy, which any parent can relate to (as well as anyone who can remember being a PITA kid).
Louis CK’s act is kinda similar, in that he recognizes that he loves his children and that they’re immature and prone to bizarre behavior, yet he admits to having dark and almost hateful thoughts towards them.
gonzo is right about it on the TV show though. I remember the line on the show and it was in a totally different context and painfully unfunny. The kind of thing where you want to talk to the TV and say: “Dude, why did you go and wreck a good bit like that?”
She stood up in the stirrups, and told everyone in the delivery room, that my parents were never married!

Love Louis CK so much. I think that maybe some parents never ever notice anything…annoying about their little angels. That 's cool.
But some parents do. And if you are the kind of parent that would run through fire for you kid and still can see that said kid is often an asshole, then man you can really appreciate some of the darker kid humor from comedians.
